Dude, same. I’ve come in contact with so many weeaboos who completely lack self awareness and knowledge of social etiquette. In some cases, they were terrifying because they were totally unaware of the damage they caused (and the degree of damage) each time they opened their mouths. They don’t follow social norms or logical trains of thought. They make themselves socially and mentally disabled simply because they choose to drown themselves in 2D and never talk to other people except at conventions.

One of these weeaboos decided to very loudly rant how Chinese and Korean people should go back to Asia and leave the pure Japanese behind so that he could easily find his pure maido waifu (all bc he couldn’t tell the difference between the Asian ethnicities and would ask them point-blank what “flavor of Asian” they were which would obviously make for a bad first impression but he thought he was being smooth). This took place in the middle of a busy Asian supermarket. Disgusted glares and mild shock on the surrounding (Asian) people’s faces. And he wondered why I refused to give him my number.

I hope I never come in contact with a turboweeb whose legacy is worth telling in a CGL horror thread.

Your panel is always well received at every convention I've seen it listed in, and I have absolutely no confidence that the person who stole it from you, panel name and all, is going to do a good job. I mean, exceptions and anecdotes, but one of my coworkers is super normie and when there was that pokemon go craze I admitted I play it and she made fun of me, aggressively. Everybody else was pretty cool with it but she was just relentless in making fun of me for it.

Had a really strange experience with this girl in highschool which still freaks me out as an adult.

I was a freshman and she a senior who was, not only 4 years older than me, but at least 300 pounds bigger. I'm not even exaggerating, this was the biggest person I've ever seen in my life who was president of the anime club, spoke in a fake high-pitched anime scream, and claimed to have 4 different people living inside of her. I'll just call her Yoko since that was one of her 'personality' names.

I was really dweeby and lonely but she clung onto me the day I came to her anime club meetings like a mother-hen.
Everything started out relatively fine and it was endearing to me how Yoko lent me so many mangas and anime dvds that I otherwise had no access to.
But then she started inviting me to hang out with her after school...
She lived in this shanty in the middle of the ghetto in a house steeped in garbage. I had to step over literal piles of garbage and old cat shit caked into the carpet to get to Yoko's room where she sat me down in front of a computer and played a bunch of her homemade amv's.
I also had no idea what "shipping" was at the time or slashfic or anything like that. I was barely 14 but then Yoko starts asking me about slashfic and boots up her fanfiction dot net page where she literally stood over my shoulder and made me read 2-3 of her own hardcore lemon fics of Hiei and Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho.
I was mortified and just kind of sat there skimming and pretending it was cool and just went home shaken.

She got weirdly sexual with me at school as the year went on too. She would flip my skirts up in the hallway, and grab my breasts and squeal in that high pitched fake voice of hers but then immediately pull back, ashamed of herself, and then apologize, blaming it on one of the people living inside of her who has a crush on me.

I have to emphasize again that this girl was ENORMOUS. I was barely 90lbs while she just towered over me height and weight combined and would knock me over daily with her constant glomping and overly hands-on attitude with me.
I was really uncomfortable but too socially awkward to say anything to her because she was one of the only "friends" I had going into highschool.

Yoko stopped talking to me for about 2 weeks until Halloween rolled around and for our holiday meeting at Anime Club, I dressed up as (a very poor rendition of) Yuna from Final Fantasy.
Yoko SCREAMED at the top of her lungs when she saw me come in, grabbed me, threw me over her shoulder and just started spinning me around just wailing out in that horrible voice of hers until she swung me head-first into the door frame and knocked me out cold.
Some other kids in the club had gone and gotten a teacher who had to call an ambulance for my obvious concussion and that was kind of it.
I stopped going to anime club and avoided her for the rest of the holiday break.

Not a horror story so much as a recount of watching my nerdy but some what normie friends encounter weeb-con culture for the first time.

A few of my friends traveled to an out of town con w/ me to give me a hand with tabling and to meet some of the guests ect. It was a fun girls trip and honestly a great time. Two of them are cosplaying, but neither cosplay on the regular but want to for fun. Pretty good, put decent effort in, have fun and all that good stuff yada yada.

One of my friends, K, is cosplaying Amanda, from Dream Daddy. She's brown, and wears a similar fashion to Amanda anyway. Me and K are both fans of a lot of the same things - YOI, Steven Universe, Voltron, ect ect - but neither of us participate in fandom in any real way, we pretty much just talk to each other and some other actual close friends about any over lapping interests, buy a bit of merch (a lot in my case), and I make fan art for my AA table (K doesn't even really get what shipping is outside of anything any click bait website posts about).

So K has NO CLUE what these fandoms are like, or that there's any overlap. I am well aware of all the overlap so I see what happens next coming a mile away.

K is just dicking around in front of my stall, helping me neaten the table up, it's preview night and there's jack shit all people there but it's a chill atmosphere. Out of the corner of my eye I see a Yuuri cosplayer and I can see her just fucking freeze and hone in on my friend like a meerkat. I fully know what's gonna happen next but I decided it'd probably be harmless to let K experience it once and if it gets bad, I'll step in. Me and K work in the same store in retail, so it's not like we don't know how to handle a shitty customer, it's hardly any different.

Y'know when something catches someone off guard and their body doesn’t react fast enough so their eyes just get really big? It’s my favourite thing in the entire world and K embodied it in that very moment. She turned her head to the Yuuri cosplayer fully, then to me, then back to her and just sorta quietly says “Hi?”

From there the Yuuri cosplayer coerces a hug out K without so much as using an actual full sentence and it was delightful to watch K try and interpret weird bouncing and tumblr memes she’s never heard in her entire life. I warned her after that was going to happen a lot through the con, and she def learned to start dodging people or at least getting rid of them faster.

There’s nothing more fascinating to me than watching normal, adjusted humans interact with small (and sometimes not small, actually full sized adults) nerds tromp around these conventions acting as if their entire mind-set is the social norm. I get a lot of parents with little kids at my stall trying to silently communicate their distress and I can see the fight or flight instinct in their eyes everytime one of these tweens comes thundering past, screaming about some shipping this kawaii that what ever the fuck. It’s beautiful.

But I've got a story to contribute.

So in 2010 I was an officer in my college anime club and there was one guy, I'll call him John, who would always without fail wait for me after club was over. John was a chubby white dude with full on neckbeard and wore glasses who always put on his anime paraphernalia to go to club. Bleach shirts, Naruto headband, core drill, you name it, he'd wear it. Club officers warned poor transfer me as a young newbie when they found out I let him use my laptop to read a chapter of Manga (and honestly I should have realized it but being naive and friendly me I just wanted to be nice, but this was his way of finding girls...?) Nobody knows when John graduated high school and started college only that he started maybe earlier than 2005 and was still actively attending by 2016, I shit you not.

Anyway, every night he'd wait for me to get out of the meeting and for a set of weeks I'd go with the officers for dinner. But I was also an unemployed college kid so sometimes I'd just take the free school bus back to my apartment. One day he waits and lures me out with fucking toys.

So to bring it back, John would ramble at me over random shows that I had maybe two seconds of interest in before he'd destroy it. Pokémon? But look at John's extensive silver haul. Digimon? But look at this figure. Kamen Rider? Oh no.

So I keep sidestepping and I tell him I have to take the bus, my roommate is waiting at the bus stop. So he offers to take me to the bus stop and I tell him I'll just wait. He decides to valiantly wait with me for an additional uncomfortable 15 minutes to which he rambles at me about random shows and moving closer, and I'd move away.

More folks show up to the bus stop and they're giving us weird looks because by this point I'm too tired to hide how uncomfortable I am. Finally the bus shows up and I tell him I'm going because OBVIOUSLY, and he leans in and hugs me, kind of one armed around the shoulder, and ugh I could just feel the grease. So I hop on the bus. AND SO DOES HE. Which startles the shit out of me, but he turns to the two who'd gotten on before me and declares "you guys need to make sure she gets home safely!" And they look concerned and I'm about ready to go die, but he gets off the bus without a second word and goes to his car. And I tell the two I was sorry about that and they awkwardly shrugged and I went home thinking that he would follow the bus (so my roommate actually came out and met me).

The next week at anime club, John waits until the meeting is over, stalks right up to the officers, and says he doesn't think it's safe for me to ride the bus alone. And then he offers to take me home. And they said they would take care of it but tell him he has to leave because they have to lock up. The next week, he hovers in the back and then offers to take me home, and I tell him I'm going to one of the other officer's places. The NEXT week, the club web designer is just Fucking Done, big old 6'6 looks like an Irish bodyguard who could snap you in seconds, walks up to the guy and kicks him out 5 minutes after club ends. And does this until he stops waiting for me, which takes until they move the club room the next semester for him to stop. I ran into him at a mini event this hear and freaked when I realized this greasy, immortal nerd was getting in my bubble to look at figurines someone was selling, and when I looked up I realized it was him. So I looked back down and shifted away and was very glad he didn't seem to recognize me or remember my name.
