I honestly think this could just be one of those cases of itas pushing themselves to the front. The gold shoes and head band thing look awkward in that sea of wine and off white, I'd recommend a lower cut blouse and bonnet tied under your chin to give the illusion of any neck definition. The dress itself is as inoffensive as any other grandma-kei curtain/couch dress, but as a lolita on the larger size, you should try to go for designs that flatter the waist area, tubes of one colour/pattern tend to make larger people look more boxy, even a waist tie or a floofier petti would help.

I get that people like taking big group pictures but honestly once your meetup is this big you're just shooting yourself in the foot. The people in front who are crouching get shafted because even if they had a somewhat decent coord the way they had to pose like that makes it hard to tell. On the converse, I know a couple of the lolitas in the back row are consistently well dressed but nobody can tell because having so many people in the photo makes it literally impossible. To the event organizers, I suggest breaking it down into smaller group photos so everyone gets their pic taken in a way that you can actually see and appreciate the coord. Extremely happy I did not go to this meetup, this photo is not representative of the comm.

This looks like halloween meet. All halloween meets get a little ita. There lots of real itas in this picture, but so many are just need to be rid of the big witch hats and ugly crowns and be a pretty coord by itself.

Some these girls have unfortunate looking faces but their coords are nice, not like greatest, but still okay.

The little girl look okay, too, but children always look bit awkward in lolita, like it's princess dress up or something. At least most the men tried. Most comm men and boyfriend "accessories" just wear plain dress shirt and slacks. No aesthetics.

I went, and the event was honestly very fun and most people had good coordinates, with a few really stellar outfits.
Food was good for the price, and prize pool was good as well. I liked that they let people put in their raffle tickets for specific prizes so that you could have more chances on items you want, and not get called for items you didn't like.
I'm not from Ohio com though, so I can't say how it compares to that com's meets in general.

I know nothing about South Australia but I've met plenty of local itas and even some decent lolitas who only wear their coords to cosplay events and have no connection with the lolita community, either because they don't know we exist or have this idea that we're elitist bullies and that they're better off with the cosplayers. lol well maybe I am, but most people in my comm are really nice. Yet we have a reputation amongst cosplayers for being elitist and unwelcoming because we wrote an extensive guide/FAQ and direct newbies to that instead of holding their hands and answering every single one of their repetitive questions personally. So unreasonable! Also we think brands like Baby are better quality than Bodyline and that counts as bullying nowadays.
Personally I think good riddance to these oversensitive types, but it does suck that they're going around ruining the comm's reputation in their own circles. This happened in my comm too. Years ago I mentioned to a friend in the cosplay scene how I wanted to visit the lolita comm, and he winced and said he had heard terrible shit about them. I showed up in babbys second coord and didn’t get any unsolicited comments. Recently I hosted an event and a couple girls were kind of borderline, but I didn’t say anything and it was chill. I dont know if the drama whores left or what, but it’s been entirely tolerant as long as you are well behaved.

It can be a plethora of things, low thyroid (causes obesity), hormones, not enough blood to the scalp, wearing lots of headbands or pulling your hair back, birth control will do it, stress can do it.
