Whatever, I'm going to japan weekend madrid for the first time? is it any good? The only "big cons" I've gone to SDM jw barcelona and jw valencia for comparison purposes.

Anybody went to FicZone? I checked out their webpage just for curiosity and last year they did so many different activities and only for 5€???? And they had Akira fucking Yamaoka as a guest too! Not sure if it's just bait to lure otacos, but comparing it to JW or FICOMIC, FicZone seems much better...

Also, Albanime has good reviews overall, but people said to me it's only worth it if you live nearby.

I like a lot JW, the Artist Alley (or Artist House in this case) is so big and I'm really happy to see so many artists. Also, they're really kind with cosplayers and you can ask any doubt with the staff. JW have a lot of activities ever and when I went on September I could't look all I want to do.
It's like SDM but fixing all the problems SDM have, and JW BCN but bigger. The entry costs nearby the same as SDM and I enjoy more than SDM.

Seconding this, I'm from Barcelona too, I haven't really traveled much in my life so I feel a bit scared of going all the way to Granada... I don't know if they organize buses to the con from other cities or have any kind of train ticket discounts, like other cons already do, but I recall seeing a "camping zone" in their website for staying at night or something like that. I should check out their website again for more info.

Now that you mention it... I haven't seen a lot of lolitas in general outside of cons (except milanoo-tier itas, but we don't count those), but all I've seen in my city are classic or gothic. I imagine because it's more discrete?

I'm going to have a stand in JW Madrid next year, but it's my first time having a stand so I'm kind of nervous. I don't know which fandoms are the most popular here (I'm preparing lovelive, overwatch, and bnha stuff, but i'm at lost for more), or how much supply I should bring.

I know theres an AA thread in /cgl/ but it's mostly USA-focused so I'd rather know tips for Spanish cons. Any tips that could help?

>> No.9697262

>>9697250
I've been into AA stuff for a year or so and I'm also going to JW madrid for the fist time next year.
My advice is that you have to find a sweet spot between popular stuff and fandoms that don't get a lot of merchandise. I made overwatch prints and keychains and I sold almost nothing, because the market is oversaturated with overwatch merchandise. But in the other hand, osomatsu for example is a great fandom to make merchandise for example. Because it is fairly popular but it's realy hard to find merchandise in cons.
Another option you have is to make some original cute stuff, because maybe that won't sell as well as a popular fandom, but you don't have the hurry of selling it before it becomes unpopular.
The only thing I can tell you is that if this is your first time, you probably won't make a lot of money. So go there to have fun and meet people, most of the people in the artist alley are really nice and open.
Have fun!

>> No.9697323

It depends, In some cons I've made barely enough to cover costs, and in others I made up to 200 euros in two days, but I don't go to very big cons anyways. I'ts not a lot, but i know people who make over 1000 euros at big cons.
My recommendation is that you don't make a lot of copies.

I go with arround four to six copies of the prints because they don't sell very well and are relatively expensive to print.

Stickers are really cheap so I make a fair ammount , maybe two pages of each design, and i cut some of them in the stand to pass time.

Acrylic keychains sell very well but are generaly expensive to make, about that, if you are confident of your designs, I'd maybe make like ten of each and I'd try to ask other people to make a group order to cheapen the shipping.

Maybe you know but there is a spanish artist alley facebook group, I'ts great to ask stuff like this, and it's always good to hear opinions from more experienced people. It's a private group but if you are interested on joining, drop a contact.

Any idea if the Japan Weekend Artist Alleys get chosen by jury or first come first serve? How quick do you have to be to get a spot in Madrid or Barcelona?

>> No.9712619

>>9711796
I'm not really in Artist Alley but some friends do (if anybody is really into it please correct me). Most of the time is they choose the first to inscribe, but in ocasions they choose others because they participate in other JW and they know they're relliable or just make something different inside the AA. And you have to be like REALLY QUICK to send the solicitude. In Madrid and Barcelona AA go really fast, like just 30 minuts to be full.

Mesa = table. The thick tablecloth over it evolves a regular table into a "mesa camilla". Japan has a twin called kotatsu, which works wonders in winter + extra heating. Charcoal was a thing decades ago (still a thing in the countryside?), but cities have electrical heating everywhere

Have you ever played the game "Terranigma"? Spain is portrayed as a dark, medieval country ruled by a mad queen.

Japanese people think that flamenco sounds like someone's crying.

Also north Europeans think of us as "the insane Christians from the south".

Outsiders don't see Spain as that sunny, happy party people place (actually the Brittish and German are more party-happy people in Spain than the Spanish), but some kind of insane religious crybabys. So I don't know how you guys keep trying to push that fake narrative. Nobody buys that shit.

Some cons makes a "mesa redonda" with different reviewers and vydia journalist and talk and discuss about what the public ask. It's really fun and interesting. Also you can invite some singer or dance group (not famous, just some who actually did a performance in other con). Most of the times they only need to pay the transport! They are not really famous but makes a good performance.

I Also I want to say cons should stop inviting famous cosplayers. It's more worth inviting some singer because they actually can make a performance. Famous cosplayers usually only sign prints and makes some Q&A but most of the people don't give a shit about this.
