I was thinking today (a dangerous pastime, I know) about all the articles the news has put out over the years about lolita fashion. I started to google them a little and figured it could be fun to have a thread to talk about them, share them, discuss which outlets did better. I'll dump as many as I can find!

Aw, I've met her a couple of times! Sweet is not my thing but she can coord like a beast. She definitely knows how to make the hijab work for her as a part of the outfit. The times I saw her the hijab felt like a completely natural part of her coord as opposed to breaking the cohesion of the outfit.

I'd be curious as to what she could do with classic.

Daily mail would feature LIVING DOLL articles every few months at one point, a lot have disappeared but here’s a few. They always put buzzwords everywhere to get comments or pick up the trashiest they can find.

I always fucking dread these articles coming out, mainly bc the 'lolitas' they chose to interview or always either awful itas or weird rich girls with issues screaming about how they just want to be a 'real life princess uwu' or how 'ITS NOT RELATED TO THE BOOK DON"T WORRY' making us all look mental. I wish normal lolitas who actually knew their shit and could calmly explain the fashions history where the ones being interviewed. But it always ends up being some obnoxious, I guess bc they stand out the most. A crazy chick using weird pedo fashion as escapism is gonna get a lot more clicks/views than a normal girl who just expresses herself through clothes. Even short documentary made or overseen by other lolitas (like the one about the Australian comm or the one lovely lor was in) always portray the fashion as some big dramatic life-changing thing, yeah it might be like that for some but it just makes us all look delusional.

Id love for a docu made by a knowledgeable lolita that goes over the fashions roots, interviews with designers from old brands, models etc. Im tempted to do it myself but I don't have the funds or connections.

Dresses will have to wait, I'm going to save for FFS, just in case. And get a rope, just in case. I would rather kill myself than let myself to look like this in lolita and allow anyone to see me.
I mean, she's probably happy, but I feel sorry for the other lolitas that are being seen with her, and for the bad image she creates for everyone in the fashion.

wow. you sound like a real asshole.
Andrea doesn't create a bad image, and the way you think she does/does not pass has no bearing on how I would practice lolita if I were in her comm.
bloomers and cutting her wig bangs would help, but honestly she really is getting better with time. transitioning is like being a teenager, from my understanding. everyone has gone through a style evolution, and sometimes people make mistakes and dress 'thotty' to read as feminine.
her eye makeup has definitely improved. I just think it would help her to consider her age and skintone for what would be more flattering.
I think she looks a bit like Anjelica Huston. I'd really like to see her git gud with hair and makeup because I think she could look better with heightened skill.

I didn't mean to talk ill about her. I'm deeply sorry if it seemed like it. It's mostly about my own insecurities…
She certainly can look great. I think that at her age the sweet style doesn't suit her that well. She also has really prominent arms and legs. Especially when in short sleeves, they take the attention away from her outfit, contrasting unflatteringly.
But I shouldn't really be the one to talk, I admit I know very little about the fashion.
There's also the thing about her smile, it can seem a little forced and creepy after a while. So is the way she poses, pushing her torso much out, with legs and arms often spread out. Maybe she could use some advice on how to look good in photos.
She certainly has many ways to improve, but I would never call her ita. I see she really puts a lot of effort into trying to dress good, especially after browsing through her Instagram.

It's just that I have read on here so much about gulls talking about guys dressing in the fashion, for fetishistic purposes, never caring for advice, sometimes claiming to be brolitas or even trans, and also how it makes outsiders see comms and groups they appear in…
I do not know her, I would definitely feel intimidated a little if I have meet her for the first time.

Andrea is a terrible person, for reasons that have nothing to do with looks or gender. She can be very nice, but she also is extremely selfish and self important, and has a bad track record as an event organizer. Ask anyone involved in running the Frill convention a few years back, or vendors/brands she’s worked with for events, and there are some horror stories.

>The problem is, Lexa has become enamored with Japanese "Lolita" clothing, which has an exaggerated little-girl style.
>When Stacy and Clinton try to explain the sexual connotations to her wardrobe, she is offended, saying that's not what "Lolita" is about--it's not sexual. While I agree that her clothes weren't revealing, it's apparent that she's never read Nabokov, or delved enough into the manga/anime community.
>I can see how Lexa might be attracted to the feminine details, but as Stacy points out, the way it's cut is just more suitable for a 10 year old girl and not a grown woman. On a 30 year old, it just looks like a costume.
>Clinton is stunned by her wardrobe, saying it's all "child or grandma". It's true that much of her clothing is either dowdy or anime kiddie style.
>Lexa goes on to obsess about the high heels. They're too sexy, she feels, and with the "short" skirt she feels she's exposing way too much skin. She feels uncomfortable, and thinks it says "skank". Stacy and Clinton are dumbfounded, especially since Lexa's "Gothic Lolita" dress in the What Not to Wear 360 was shorter--and she was wearing it with a stacked sandal. Determined to improve her mood, Stacy and Clinton let her go and get flats. (Hey, at least she didn't say the outfit was "weird".)
>I hope Lexa can learn to see herself more clearly, and enjoy being herself rather than trying to turn herself into a character she hopes people will admire.

It's just a lot less rigid in design and more self aware when it's being provocative. There isn't the pretense of innocence in fashion.

Yikes

>Most people hold the opinion that once a girl puts on a black-and-white shirt and a checkedskirt, she has already been a Lolita girl. Also, there are some people think Lolita does not only refer to a kind of costume style, but also a sort of spirit.
>Sweet Love Lolita -pink, light blue, white etc are main colors in this series. Velvet is the most popular cloth.
>Elegant Gothic Lolita – black and white are most frequently used here. They stand for mystery, terror and death.
>Classic Lolita – they are basically similar to sweet Lolita dresses. But simpler colors are adopted.
>Gothic & Lolita refers to a kind of clothing style. Cosplay means a sort of roll play activity. Don’t mix them up please. To be honest, a lot of people misunderstand this because many anime roles appear with gothic & Lolita clothes. For example, Sakura Kinomoto from Card Captor Sakura, Chii from Chobits etc are popular characters in anime. Both of them wear gothic & Lolita clothes. This undoubtedly directly causes the misunderstanding.
>In Japan, these Lolita dresses are always sold on prices more than one thousand.

And it's also ridiculous, the author has a huge chip on her shoulder. Japanese women don't like the pill because they don't want to fuck around with their hormones just so a guy can slip their dick into them without having to worry about knocking her up. Given how low Japan's rates of teenage pregnancy are, and the low birth rates in general, as well as abortion being easily accessible, the notion that women have less control over their reproductive sexuality, especially compared to the U.S. with its lunatic fringe trying to get rid of all forms of birth control, is ridiculous, racist claptrap. That she connects it to a street fashion just boggles the mind. >these young women are telegraphing the weakness or helplessness of a child. Is it the equivalent of wearing a sign that says, "Please take care of me?"
To be fair, it's not completely far off from the image the Japanese girls aimed to adopt to themselves with their frills at the fashion's conception. It was a form of rebellion against their society that expected them to marry and take on the responsibilities of their household and new families.
It doesn't mean that the wearers of the fashion *are* helpless and need to be taken care of, obviously many lolitas are grown adults with jobs who fund their fashion and hobbies themselves, but the image of the dainty doll that can't (or rather doesn't care to) take care of a family is there.

I see your point anon, but the author of the article was doing a bit of virtue signaling to make it about lolita being regressive

>By embracing Doll's House-style, are Lolitas a setback for women who want to be taken seriously?

How about, idgaf?

I met her in person and talked to her at Rufflecon for the first time. I had seen and heard both good and bad things about her on here but I wanted to know what she was like irl, and she was actually quite sweet and friendly in person.
We talked about BTTSB new releases so she obviously knows about lolita and enjoys it, and isn't wearing it solely for fetishistic purposes. Honestly, she just seemed kind of lonely and was really nice and happy when I struck up conversation with her, and afterwards throughout the convention she'd always wave and smile when we passed each other.
Of course I can't profess to know someone just from minimal conversation, but from first impressions she seems like a kind individual who genuinely loves the fashion and just has an unfortunate face.

Guys. Guys. What was that one, where the actress "invented" lolita for her kids book series or some shit? I don't even remember what actress, I just remember she showed up on a talk show in brand and had some made up word for it, and the morning after it happened I honestly thought there was a new word filter cus the whole board was using the term.

I remember that! Combing through EGL yielded no results, maybe I didn't search properly... but I definitely know what you're talking about. She was on Jimmy Fallon's show iirc.

The interview was from Jimmy Kimmel but it appears to be purged from YouTube. Found this image of the outfit though. Apparently she called it her "Squickerwonkers costume".

Yeah her wardrobe was pretty small and wasn't the most cohesive at the time, and the pieces themselves weren't great either. It makes me wish there was a show where lolita veterans would give clueless newbs and forever itas a makeover.

That wasn't badly written.

>“When I travelled to Canada wearing Lolita,” says Leung, “I thought the people would be more open-minded than in Hong Kong, but it is not so. Most of them dress in just trousers, and if they see you in Lolita they will take your photo without permission. It’s the same in China.

>“I am lucky to live in Hong Kong.”

Sounds familiar.
