Aaaah EO from Georgia here reporting in that AM from Narnia (I ripped into the label too quickly out of sheer excitement sorry) did right by me. Seeing all these pictures makes me start to think I spent way too much ahhh... I only had one person but got way out of hand.

Like, I shopped very smart and the main items I got for extremely good prices, but altogether I think my gift comes to like $150, I actually didn't even realize I spent that much until I started packing it all away today. Eep. Big item, mid item, four small pieces of merch for stuff they like, candy snacks, went ahead and tossed in some small stuff I owned that I knew she would appreciate more... I did mean to go over, but wow I went more over than I thought.

Did anyone else ridiculously overspend in the $50+ tier so I don't feel alone? ;;

I'm a $35-$50 gull and I spent $55 on the items and then another $10 or so on wrapping materials (a decorative box, ribbon, and some glittery tissue paper) and then $9 on shipping. That being said though, I purchased many small items as opposed to one big item, just because that's the way I prefer to gift, but I'd be happy with one big item instead! I think most people overspend, though in 50+ it's really just a matter of how much you're willing to spend I guess.

Last year I was in the 35-50 (i think that was the range) tier and i spent probably $85 total not counting shipping, gift wrapping, or any of the little candies I put in.

I have two 50+ matches, and spent about $150 on each. I mainly really hope that they like their presents, and it would be a great bonus too if they spend a lot for me. I have to say, I am very happy with my gift and with the company (was very fun to see someone else into similar stuff, as I am not part of the community here). You seem like a very warm and friendly person!

People who overspend and don't mind that they may not get the same monetary amount back are sweet hearts but let's not get carried away over feeling like we all need to match the biggest spenders okay? Tiers exist for a reason, if someone signs up for a lower tier because that's what's available to them at the time I don't want them to feel bad that they didn't overspend.

The comment someone left about being jealous that their gift wasn't as good as the AP bag gift left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand being upset over a low effort or thoughtless gift but from what I've seen so far no one has gotten used nail polish or cheap ass amazon bows yet this year so chill and appreciate the thought and effort your gifter put in. CGL secret santa is my favorite exchange to participate in because it's the only one I've experienced where people actually read their giftee's interests and think about what a good gift for their matches are instead of getting generic shit and it makes me salty that some people care more about getting spoiled money wise rather than getting a thoughtful gift that matches the guidelines of whatever tier they signed up for.

this. i was going to comment but felt it might be overstepping a boundary. i understand it’s hard not to compare, but devaluing all the work someone put into a gift just because it may not have been as expensive is just rude (given that the gift wasn’t cheap amazon bows like you said). i think it should be expected to stay within the tier, as that’s what they’re there for and some people can only afford the limit of the tier they signed up for, but if someone spends more it should be seen as a nice bonus and not an expectation.

Yeah, I'm the one who made the initial worried comment asking if anyone else overspent. I knew from the getgo I was going to spend more than $50 - it's Christmas, good lolita is expensive, and I wanted them to be happy. But at the same time I was super worried I was an outlier because I don't want my giftee to feel guilty or like they didn't do good enough. I just wanted to make her happy. Not against it but that doesn't really address the issue at hand. Overspending happens at all the tiers, not just the cap tier (which is fine! be generous you want to be!), I just don't want people to feel bad if they can't spend as much, and I don't want people to dis the gifts they received (unless legitimately low effort) because they didn't get a really expensive item.

All in all I just want people to have a good attitude about stuff regardless of tier. Also a little OT but I think there are a few organizational things that should be fixed before we go raising the cap.

At the end of the day, this is a GIFT exchange. Not a direct trade or a competition to get the richest match. If people are so hung up on being jealous of other gifts that cost more, then just don't sign up for this and buy the items for yourself?? I think people should just appreciate the gifts they get without calculating or comparing, unless it's obvious the gift was cheap and blatantly below the tier there's really no justification in complaining.

Thanks for this, anon. I signed up for the $35-50 bracket because I know my budget, and because I know I can afford $50 for a base gift before shipping and packaging... If I had known that every other person was going to exceed their limits, I guess I would have just gone in a lower bracket? I agree with the decision to send out warnings tomorrow for the giftees. Whether or not it’s a few days, from my understanding these are the people that haven’t even notified seagullsanta that they might be late. That’s just rude, I get it could be a hassle during a busy day to send out packages or finish wrapping etc. but it takes 2 minutes to send a quick “my gift will be sent late” email. Yes, the pouch is handmade, since I know BBTSB plastic rings are delicate. Glad to see it got to you in one piece.
I also tried to have something for most aspects of what you wrote, so I figured the band aids in the mini first aid kit (sorry, forgot to wrote that's what it is) could maybe go with menhera? I really don't know much about it... But a sweet first aid kit is always good. Especially if it's small enough to fit in a kumya bag.

I-is this normal? The place was packed with holiday gifts so maybe they're just super backed up. My gift arrived today!! EO, thank you so much, everything is PERFECT. Funnily enough, the cup is one I've had my eyes on for a while and never bought, so I'm super thankful for that! I've never had a gift so perfectly tailored to my tastes before, I was moved almost to tears!

Also for those curious: this was a $35-$50 match and EO definitely went above and beyond. holy SHIT TG from MA, I'd be downright lying if I said that I didn't tear up while opening your gift; this is without a doubt the most thoughtful /cgl/ SS gift I've ever received. I can't describe my lowkey screeching and tiny gasps as I opened all your gifts. All the customization that you did was amazing, from the tissue paper to the confetti, to the paper boxes -- even the colouring of the wrapping paper matched the KC acrylics! I have such an appreciation for small, thoughtful details like this and I was genuinely wow'd every step of the way.

You're a goddamn blessing to this earth and I can only hope that my gift in return can at least hold a candle to all the joy and cheer you've brought to me this season.

The ring is adorable, I didn't realize just how much I needed goldfish with crowns in my life.
The necklace is stunning, I love how we both went with the same colors and bows theme. we really do have similar taste. Gotta ask - what's in the glass part? it's really magical.

Santa is already aware about the delay, but due to the above I will be shipping closer to the second week of January. This was definitely not ideal and usually I would be more on top of things - I feel quite ashamed really.
