thx but I don't need to grow up. I'm into lolita for more than 10 years and have observed a lot of changes in direction the fashion took over the years. The asspatting of the Chinese lolitas is really something that completely changes the dynamics in lolita and their tastes turn it into something unrecognizable. And yeah, of course I'm a little mad I can get my hand on MM anymore, it has not solely to do with the Chinese but with the fact the brands are exclusively pandering towards them and forgetting their loyal customers that were buying from them since before Lolita was even big in China.

The thing is, VM's sunsetting is the other side of the coin. We're not seeing an in-between state for any of the brands where they're still doing things that the non-Chinese international market likes while also catering to the Chinese market. It's become increasingly difficult to tell if they're even catering properly to their own Japanese market at this point because the indie brands are completely veering off in a different direction when you compare it to what AP/BtSSB have been releasing for the last few years.

And remember, this is business. Loyalty doesn't pay the bills or keep the lights on. At the moment, Chinese money does, so they're gonna follow where the cashflow is coming from. And if you really, really think about it, the international market's been feeding the monster in its own way by eating up all the shit that taobao produces so naturally the Japanese brands are going to follow suit because that's what they think is desired as well.

>> No.9752707

>It's become increasingly difficult to tell if they're even catering properly to their own Japanese market

Do they? The most I've seen from China are pics from extravagant meetups but I guess I'm not looking in the right places.
Either way, I wish daily lolita was more visible in the western comms. Not to say that no one in the west wears it daily, people obviously do (myself included), it's just not obvious because a lot of it isn't posted online so there's a feeling that if it isn't online for the world to see, it supposedly doesn't exist. Makes me sad, honestly.

>> No.9752721

>>9752546
Honestly, it's the Western market mainly to blame for brands not catering to us. How many of us are actually order dresses new when there's not a sale or something? My local comm is huge, and nobody ever suggests buying directly from brand. Everyone only purchases as cheap as they can from secondhand websites. One girl claims to be "BTSSB SO LOYAL!" but she's never even purchased a dress new directly from them. Many girls even directly say they love a rerelease, but are going to wait for it to show up cheap secondhand. Chinese lolitas (previous Japanese lolitas) are the main ones buying directly from the brands. People keep complaining about Chinese lolitas "ruining" brands, but a lot of these brands would be suffering if it weren't for them. I can imagine they also complain a lot less about "muhhh can't fitttt change your sizes!"

>> No.9752732

I fully admit that all of the following are assumptions on my part based on personal observations, and as with all statements on this board you should take it with a grain of salt. If you wanna tell me I'm full of shit that's also your choice to do so.

>How could you tell before?
The secondhand market used to have a much higher price range and it's been steadily dropping for a good number of years, and there's more and more secondhand available than ever before that's not moving as quickly as before - to me that indicates decreased interest/oversaturation of the market. And the fact that the hardcore Japanese customers only brands seem to be the ones eating shit at the moment.

>not going to a brand tea-party
Using IG tags, watching what's appearing on the secondhand market in the secondhand stores, street snaps, occasional blogs when reverse image searching various items, twitter, watching the shift on mercari/fril getting more taobao items than before, watching the shift on jahoo getting more taobao items than before. You could say that it might be Chinese lolitas in Japan doing a bunch of the selling, but the fact remains that it's now in a system where it wasn't before and is becoming embraced (CC carries ToAlice, ToAlice has a physical store location in Harajuku) more so than before. Regarding the tags, it's interesting that the romanized versions of the brand tags have more posts under them than the kanji.

I know it's a tired meme to call something taobao-like but there is a noticeable difference between design choices from even 2014 when you compare it to what's available now. Part of that is going to be a natural evolution of fashion, and part of it is going to be influence because we know for a fact that the Japanese brands have been running events in China, and some of these events also involve the Chinese brands being there with them on site. It's impossible for them to not have some sort of exposure and influence from this alone, nevermind seeing what the Chinese lolitas are wearing and buying at such events.

I'm wondering, should I get a Bodyline skirt?
I have better and prettier things, the skirt in question is cute, but nothing special. It's second hand, so it's really cheap, and I'm thinking of it as using it for daily wear at home, for stuff like cooking, where I wouldn't feel bad about getting it dirty. Get it if you'll use it anon. If you can easily wear it, it's not a terrible choice. But don't expect good quality. >>9752721
actually, if you think about it, the secondhand market is good for brand. there's a lot of security in knowing that you can sell anything you no longer want and get a pretty good return on it, which spurs those buying new to continue buying new.
on another note: I'm a big bitch so a lot of stuff I like and can also wear are from yesteryear, but I'm not gonna lie and say that I would not hesitate to buy new if there was something I wanted on reservation or was newly released. buying used has definitely spoiled me, and I have bookmark folders and excel sheets filled with things I eye on the regular but can't get myself to purchase because of the nwt price. it's the psychology of wanting to get more items for a certain total.
I still spend a ton, but the big haul usually wins over the small haul of brand new.

>> No.9752971

>>9752957
>the secondhand market is good for brand
not that anon, but i kindly disagree. yes, essentially being able to resell items would be good. however, in the current market where things can easily be bought for less than half of the original price, i don't think people are purchasing brand directly with the thought of reselling secondhand in their minds. i think that best applies to people buying a cheap dress secondhand that they may or may not like, and know they can get most of, if not all, their money back.
>it's the psychology of wanting to get more items for a certain total
agree for sure. i think anon was just pointing out that most westerners think this way, and that's why we're not top priority. chinese lolitas seem to be the biggest market purchasing brand directly from the source. if the majority of western lolitas purchased directly from brand, i'd bet brands would start catering more towards us too.

>> No.9752974

>>9752971
>i don't think people are purchasing brand directly with the thought of reselling secondhand in their minds
This. I buy directly from brands all the time and this never enters my mind at all. I buy to keep and wear. I only sell when it's years later and I realize I don't wear it enough or my style changes and I don't like it as much anymore.

It actually saddens me when some of my friends who own a lot of brand say they've never bought from brand before. Some even get new releases, but still buy from an SS. I get it, you want to be sure, but you're missing out on the discount points and all the extras they include. Not to mention the smaller brands will ship directly to you without a forwarding service anyway.

>> No.9752978

>>9752974
Using a SS still supports the brand, though. You using the SS means the brand indirectly gets your money. I try to buy direct as much as possible, too, but I don't really have an issue with using a shopping service for things such as popular releases or in-store only special sets.

I understand why people do it. I'm saying I think they are missing out on part of the experience. These are the people who have never bought directly from brand before, which means they only buy items they think will sell out quickly brand new.
Again it saddens me because it means they are getting all their other pieces secondhand or taobao. A lot of nice pieces you're just not going to find secondhand because they are useful and those who buy them hold onto them. It's the versatile pieces that people tend to ignore, but really make a cohesive wardrobe.

>Measuring by cup size alone

Anons, your cup size is only the difference in measurement between your underbust and overbust. It means nothing without your underbust measurement to go with it.

A 30D is in a whole different ballpark than a 38D. That's a 34" bust measurement versus a 42" bust measurement. A 28G is only a 35" bust, a comfortable fit into most brand, while a 40C comes out to a brand-busting 43".

Please educate yourselves about proper bra sizing and wear well-fitted garments, anons. I care about your comfort and support.

>> No.9753096

>>9753078
It makes sense if trying to consolidate with auctions, but I've never found it economical for shipping that way. It gets too heavy and shipping prices are ridiculous combined with added SS fee, but I never really buy just a couple items.

I'm not sure why people are so offended about it. I don't care, I just think people should know how to buy direct from brand and not brag about having never done so.
Smaller brands include nice extras (like branded clear files, postcards, shopping bags), have excellent customer service (sent the wrong item and let me keep it) and larger brands include the special event items and sometimes include a shopping bag with the sticker they use to close the bag. And like I said, you build up discount points. I've bought things for "free" before.

Nordstrom also tends to carry a good range of bra sizes. If you have a really small band and large cup, they might have to special order, but they can usually get any size. Just go to stores that either specialize in bras or higher end retail stores like Dillards/Nordstrom (I'm assuming you're in the US). I wear 30DDD and pretty much have to buy from these stores as average retailers don't carry my size. Doesn't mean you have to be broke doing so, while the bras are more expensive than average if you're smart with shopping clearance and sales you can get them cheap. The past New Years sale at Dillards I got three Natori bras for $10 each, was nice.

I'd get measured in one of these stores too. I got measured in a Victoria's Secret and they told me I was a 32DD, probably because that's the smallest waist + biggest cup they carried, and those bras always were too small in cup and I had to clasp them at the last hooks. Dillards sized me properly.

I don’t buy clothes going “ yes I’ll turn around and resell this later” I fully intend to keep it. Then down the road if i find myself not wearing it or not liking it any more, I sell it. It’s the way people with normie clothes do it. When you grow tired of the clothes you give it to someone who can use it. Some clothes never grow old for you so you don’t sell it. When you bought it you didn’t intend to lose intrest in the item so the price was something you where willing to lose. Not regain later.
