I don't understand why people of either gender complain about this (one of my bros used to complain about his gf playing too much Animal Crossing) unless it's seriously affecting their lives.
Maybe it's because I've always enjoyed video games myself, but it makes me super happy to see my friends be able to really lose themselves in a game.
In times like this, I usually just read, study, or watch my SO play games since we're interested in the same genres and both pretty chill people anyways.

My bf used to watch this (male) Twitch streamer for hours every day, as soon as he got home. He'd pause the stream for the 15 minutes it took to eat dinner but then as soon as he finished, he'd move to another room with his laptop and go back to watching the stream until after I'd gone to bed. He almost completely stopped talking to me (aside from "what's for dinner" or "pass the salt") and instead of his voice all I heard was this tinny little Canadian voice coming from his laptop. Fortunately after a few weeks he got bored of the guy and stopped watching him pretty abruptly so now we're back to communicating like a normal couple. It was bizarre.

there wasn't even much need to clarify it was a male streamer, boys don't usually watch the same female streamer non-stop for hours for days and for a few reasons, female streamers rarely stream for so long and what's more important, to capture somebody's attention for so long it should be something which would deeply interest him i.e. if it was a girl it would be a love, lol, in this case he probably wanted to learn how to do some game trick or something

I try to wear lolita at least once a week, but it usually just ends up being on my day off when I just want to stay at home, so this positive experience has sort of rekindled my drive to wear the fashion out and about. I saw your comment a few days ago and since the thread is not going away I might aswell try to answer your question:
> the turbo shy blubbering mess of a girl
This is how many male weebs feel around girls, characters like Hinata or Tali make them feel more confident.
>no agency beyong being the love interest for the protagonist of the story
protaginst = viewer, this is often how the male weeb feels. Said weeb likes the idea of getting a girls attention
>Girls like that don't exist
So this one is harder to explain but I will try: you know how /a/ sometimes uses the phrase 3DPD, how /a/ often time has inhuman standards for their waifus? Well that is because the average male /a/ poster does not want real-life women to live up to this standard, rather he wants to.... build an idol of sorts? That he can worship? Alright this is not much of an explanation but the waifu culture is more of a pagan religion than anything else. For whatever reasons people have waifusand husbandos they also like girls that do not exist.
>why are authors trying to sell people that idea?
>why...sell...?
>sell
I think you know the answer to that question. The entertainment industry is an industry, no matter what feelings your favorite piece of work evokes from you there is always a soulless corporation behind it. It is not evil, it is not good, but if it doesn't earn money it will go out of buisness and there will be no ME2-3-andromeda or next chapter of Naruto

You just have to be worthy of causing women to become blubbering messes. Most weebs can't make the cut.

Waifus are a coping mechanism, and are a surrogate for the weebs attractions. You have to understand that there are multiple types of attraction to "waifus". Some weebs just want to fap and they find the character sexy. Others are attracted to the "personality" of the character. Some empathize with the waifu and her struggles. At the bottom of it, there's an attachment to the waifu which for some reason isn't being fulfilled by real people in the weebs life. It's not a religion, it's just an outlet for unfulfilled attraction.

I had cancer and my reproductive organs removed.
I felt happy, but also extremely sad, when my bf said he wants to have blue-eyed kids with me. He did and do knows about me, but said that he forgot for a while.

Well, at least I try to look for the positives. I can focus on career, I will never get fat due to pregnancy. Maybe aging won't hit me as hard, and I will be able to enjoy wearing lolita much longer.

I feel you anon, even if I'm on the other side of things. Had a child taken away by a very malignant partner after being told I would be "an amazing father". Destroyed the relationship, and my all my feels. Had people close to me later say, "It's never too late to become a better father." with the assumption I had abandoned her and my daughter, without knowing they simply didn't exist anymore. I think about who they would have become, and how I'll never get to know them. I won't know what you feel anon, but maybe it's close. Professional here, lemmie add to this discussion.

A person's waifu represents their ideal personality traits. Someone can fully understand that a real person can not exist with those traits, but refuse to lower their standards. This isn't even something new within human culture either; look at the story of Pygmalion to see that even our ancestors were stricken by the idea of ideal partners that could not exist. So much so that they refuse to be with others, it feels as if it isn't worth it even if they realize that someone like then couldn't exist. That's where 3dpd comes from. Many people like to make fun if the concept as a "sour grapes" kind of scenario, but people seriously into the concept of waifus or husband's without just joining in for meme purposes are probably the most romantic people you could find.
