I only went to AM once and it was last year on short notice. It was fine as I stayed mostly to myself and tried to avoid drama. I was mainly in the dealers hall. I mean I have heard about the sexual harassment accusations but with the #MeToo movement I think this may cause a change for AM. The city needs to throw more weight behind Comicpalooza. They routinely bring awesome guests, actively court locals for programming, promotion, and after-parties (admittedly hit-or-miss, usually a miss but it’s more than Matsuri does, Comicpalooza needs to stop riding Metal Geeks and Friends’s dicks so much though) and use way more of the GRB than Matsuri ever has. The crowd is usually much bigger and more diverse too.

Don't get your hopes up . I went to Swallowtail in Japan in 2016 and my friend went to AM for Swallowtail last year, needless to say AM didn't even hold a candle to real Swallowtail. We talked about it and she was really disappointed when were comparing our experiences about how mediocre her's was at AM, especially for the price she paid.

I was looking at the tickets earlier this week, and I saw that there were meal options? It's not even just snacks for $35 with tea and service. 50-70 bucks depending on the hour and how much you get. Imo, Swallowtail's food is fucking delicious (in japan, idk about AM) so the butler experience is just the cherry on top. Of course, at AM you're guaranteed to have a butler that actually speaks English.

It's an exhibit with a bunch of exclusive art pieces, cels, frames, statues, and more behind-the-scenes stuff. I attended while I was in Japan two years ago, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm honestly shocked they managed to bring it here, which honest makes me think that AM is taking this on a complete loss. The ticket prices are the same, I paid 1400¥ when I went to see it in Nagasaki. I hope they don't fuck it up, honestly, or Khara will probably have John's head.

Replying to myself to add that I've also been to Swallowtail, which cost me about $50 both times I went, but I got an entire afternoon tea, complete with a mini quiche. The decor is amazing; I really wish they let you take photos. @home and maidreamin don't have the most amazing decor, but the atmosphere is still pretty comfy. They're well-lit and iirc there was free wifi.

I was at hentaifest last year. There were girls that were stripping for a $10 bill that the host offered (and he encouraged them to do so), and a few of them DEFINITELY looked underage. My friend and I swiftly left afterwards because it was so disgusting. I honestly don’t think that they’ll let this guy run the hentai panel considering that they’ll have a guest that they paid for come to it. Especially considering how the panel last year didn’t have very good feedback. The reason they brought a paid guest for H-fest is because, like it or not, H-fest has become one of AM's biggest events. 2016 has a good attendance, 2017 had am even bigger attendance. The closing ceremonies had a suggestions segment where half the comments were having H-fest be an hour longer and more space. Despite how we feel about Jebus, he's doing something right for John to be letting him host it 3 years in a row.

If I had to guess it's part of cool japan which the japanese government is using as a way to try to promote tourism and cultural influence. think of it like those commercials you see from time to time on TV about visiting countries or states. these guests, since they're tied to the japanese government, are free or heavily subsidized for conventions.
