>tfw fiancé agreed to let me do a lolita wedding
>tfw local comm is helping me make preparations for it
>tfw sister in law is asking me for advice of what to wear
Hold me, gulls, I'm so excited. I've been so absolutely giddy about this that it's taken me all of my willpower not to randomly scream. I've already got my dress picked out, and we've picked out a beautiful secluded lakeside location to have it and we've ordered over 50 dozen roses to decorate the entire event. I still haven't gotten around to designing the cake, but a local bakery said they could get little figurines of the hubby and me to put on top of the cake, and in my dress. Every day has been flying by, and it's like being in a dream. Every day I just keep thinking about >tfw no cosplay/lolita gf and how incredibly lucky I am to find such an amazing man and such an amazing comm that's willing to help me with my wedding plans. I really love the look of some OPs, but I have such a weird set of measures, I can only wear JSKs and SKs.

Starting with the positives, slim hourglass body shape, slightly (but naturally) underweight. It allows me to easily fit S or M size in lolita, at least for JSKs.
My waist is around 65 cm (26"), so bigger sizes would be loose on me.

But then come the things that are off.
My chests seems to be a little big, but I have small breasts, around size A. Not that much of an issue with lolita, as only sometimes, in more bustier pieces, the breast area can be a little loose in JSKs, but it rarely looks bad and is better than a boobloaf.
I'm very tall, 178 cm (5'10"), and with that come long limbs. The long sleeves are way too short for me. I could go around that with cuffs or sleeves under the OP.
Sadly, my shoulders are unnaturally wide, making OPs feel really tight. It applies both to long and short sleeves. It's probably the worst part, and there's not much I can do to change that.

I kinda want to try out some princess sleeve OP, but I really don't want to be disappointed again by my shoulders.
Doesn't help that the OP I got was the most expensive piece I have got so far, and I really love the pattern print on it.

>>9812205
I plan to talk about alterations with my mom, who is a seamstress. I really wish something could be done about the OP I got.
Custom things might be out of my budget currently, and I don't know anyone who got experience with lolita dresses.

Cup size generally only matters in lolita if you are over b and even then if you are under 90cm it won't matter that much. I recommend you take your bust measurement too (from the highest point of your breast, with bra) and your shoulder width. Because you are quite tall, the waist of the dress probably doesn't sit at your actual waist and the bust place will be off - especially if you have large shoulders. I'm 165cm and my measurements are 65/83cm and I still struggle with OP's due my shoulders (42cm). They really make the fit really wonky and bad but I can wear OP's that are loose on shoulders, so there is hope for you, too.

Also, if you measure your bust it might be worth to measure your underbust too and look up your true bra size. Your cup size might actually be bigger than you expect!

Due to self-esteem issues I tend to dress like a slob. Oversized t shirts, old jeans, old sneakers. But I've always wanted to be feminine and cute and confident. So recently I purchased a few dresses and things to go with them ( a cute cardigan, tights, ect) and I'm nervously awaiting for everything to show up in the mail. Try to dress in a way that accentuates your positive features.
And always remember that there's nothing quite as attractive as a pretty smile!

My best lolita friend recently bought me a new dress and I've been choked up about it for over a week. She bought herself one and we plan to twin.
It started because we both were interested in a print, and coincidentally, the designer re-released said print literally a week after we had talked about it! When it came out she insisted she buy it for me, even though I told her I couldn't let her do that...

She says it's no big deal because of her tax return. Also that she's doing it for me because she really cares about my depression and what it's done to me over the last two years. So she's buying me the dress to lift my spirits and possibly get me jumpstarted into lolita again.

I don't know how I'll ever repay her back. I've never, ever, ever, ever, had any friend do something so nice and thoughtful for me before.
I want to shout it to the world about what she's done for me but I can't say anything because our mutual friends might feel left out or she might get embarrassed. I don't want to brag to hurt other people, but at the same time I want people to know about what an awesome friend I have. The only person who knows is my boyfriend and even he thinks she's being extremely generous. He's on the 'how the fuck are you gonna repay her?' level as I am.

I've been kinda gushy every time I've been talking to her, probably to the point where I look like a sentimental sap. But I can't help it.
I love that girl. In the past I've had such awful friendships where I was taken advantage of and (made) to buy them things. It's just nice to be on the receiving end of something thoughtful and unconditional. I don't know how to handle it.

Let her know how much you appreciate it, anon. The best way to thank her, other than outright saying "thank you", is to be a friend for her; take the time to listen to her, be there for her when she needs you.
It sounds like you've found someone truly wonderful, not because she's buying you dresses but because she does this to try to help you when you're down; so be a friend and support her back.

Have fun twinning!

It's been my dream for years to make a lolita subculture themed 90s style website with all the information and material I've collected over the years that's a bit like a game where you have to hover certain things in a picture to make them move and click them to get to know related information. I literally have a notebook full of ideas and sketches and now I've finally started learning HTML. I know it's the basics of the basics and I still have so much more to learn. I have to get better at drawing too. But damn I'm just so excited I finally started doing something after daydreaming and hesitating for so long.

Even you.
To pretend you'd be entirely unwilling to part with your dress for any monetary amount is folly, especially considering that whatever other dress you'd want has its own monetary amount. And "open for ideas"? Well that just further points to you being unsettled.

Shit, anons. I think I might be honest-to-god bipolar. Dr Phil has some seriously good advice in this area - the relationship is only at stake if you put it at stake.
If it's an argument over random shit - never play for keeps, the relationship doesn't have to be at risk.

Please don't do that... I've been in the same position many times and have stuck with life, and it's slowly starting to feel more worth it. There are ups and downs, and it took me reaching out to a lot of people and going inpatient for a while. But I'm doing better now. Given time, it could happen for you too. Where in the world are you? If you're near me I'd be happy to hang out with you. No pressure of course

You should try getting out more.
No, really.
Stop making excuses, and just do it.
Have you considered branching out into other hobbies or looking in other places?
Maybe if it's a fear thing, you need to determine what's more important to you; being afraid or finding friends.
The answer is finding friends and we both know it, so no more excuses, find that inner drive and push yourself out there.
Everyone has that inner drive, come on now. No excuses, no complaints, muster up your will and get to it!

>inb4 "Then move, anon! Go somewhere better!"
I am trying. It has taken me forever to save a paltry sum of money. I need more before I can move, and I've already sold most of my valuable possessions. The only lolita pieces I even kept were things of negligible monetary value or great sentimental value, like my dream dress, which is both cheap and precious to me.
I lack the time, money, and space for most of my hobbies. I still do plenty of the ones that I can, like reading and gardening when the weather cooperates.

RIP you.

If you're like 30, then your time is basically up.
Any guy who's serious about having a family near the age of 30 genuinely looks for a younger woman, usually early 20's.

Sounds sketchy, but it's just as simple as this: you don't want a girl with baggage, like serious ex partners or, heaven forbid, another man's kids.
Any single girl, near the age of 30, will either be crazy, have serious emotional baggage or have kids - or any combination thereof.

Posted about this in the pet peeve thread, but there is no jfashion community where I live at all (if there is, I've never seen it). I live in the Phoenix area of Arizona and it's usually way too hot to dress cute 8 months out of the year. Con season is in summer, and summer in Phoenix is usually above 100 degrees. Struggling with this as well currently! So far I've managed to get acquainted with a few people through license-specific meet-ups, since you're together for about an hour and you have a common interest all picked out for you. Striking a conversation is hard if you're really shy like myself, but you can push through and chat a bit about whatever you're cosplaying. Then exchange social media (I have cosplay cards I like to give to cosplayers I talk to or photographers who take my picture!), and if you interact with each other a few times, you're on the right track! I'm still working on the phase between that and an actual friendship so don't take this as gospel but once you manage to overcome shyness for five minutes and strike up a conversation you'll easily find common ground. Asking about how they made their costume is generally a safe bet, as is the thing they're cosplaying from. Not every person you talk to will become your best friend of course but you miss all the shots you don't take!

Aren't their charges higher than in FromJapan?

After reading some horror stories about FJ on here I never bothered looking at their fees. Japonica's fees are relatively high, yes, but they can buy from sites where other services can't so it's worth it.

There are horror stories? I've only used Zenmarket and Japonica, and I wanted to try out FromJapan, but this is concerning to hear.

>> No.9816678

>>9816533
FJ's pricing was seriously fucked for a long time and they charged a lot of hidden fees. I think they cut that shut out because it was losing them business but I'd rather pay Japonica a bit more than have something get fucked up.

Though I wouldn't use Japonica for itabagging, for example, their fees are too high per item to make them worth it.

most of the horror stories are from people who didn't realize how mich bank transfer fees and domestic shipping add up on auctions. FJ isn't any different from other big company proxies like zenmarket or buyee desu, japonica fills a different niche being mercari-compatible so i wouldn't compare them directly.

I honestly don't know. One of the events is Yukai Fest, which is at a venue that doesn't smell badly, so I'll go to that one. Jigoku Style is the other event that day, and the last time I was there, it was ok, but the fucking dealer's room and gaming sector smelled like sweaty otakus and farts. Granted, every other time I went to their events, I didn't have this complaint, but I'm expecting a lot of people to go to the Jigoku Style. They invited youtubers (none of which I recognize) and so I'm not expecting the smell to get any better.

Quick reminders for myself:
>It's ok to not be friends with everyone in your comm.
>People who aren't your friends are probably neutral about you rather than hating you.
>It's ok to have friends you like more than others, you don't have to love everyone.
>Lolita isn't srs bsns.
>If you're not having fun with your comm, you don't have to go to meets.
>It's fine to hang out with a smaller group of lolita friends.
>Repeating coords is fine.
>Not being OTT is fine.
>Not wearing makeup is fine.
>Your natural hair is probably fine, but look in the mirror and check before you leave the house.
>If you're worried what people online will say, just don't take photos.
>Not every coord needs to be posted on CoF.

Pretty much. Although if you have clear issues like big spots, raccoon circles etc a little B.B. cream is a lifesaver

Also my feel. I put in a coord with some fabulous matching earrings I made only to find out... my earring holes have closed up. Fuck

I want to put together a Mermaid Melody cosplay group but I feel like that would be really hard. It seems like it's one of those magical girl shows that was popular and then after a while everyone completely forgot about. I see Tokyo Mew Mew cosplayers every now and then and Cardcaptor Sakura cosplayers every now and then but the only Mermaid Melody cosplayer I ever see is one old guy who I've seen cosplay it at AWA occasionally. God bless that old guy.
