How did you meet your cosplay friends?

She was cosplaying Mello, but didn't have a chocolate bar to complete the look, but I happened to have brought some to the con and gave her one. We then talked and became friends.

>> No.9820133

Mostly at smaller local cons. I was cosplaying something they recognized or vice-versa and it was smooth sailing from there on out.

>> No.9820134

All my con friends are regular life friends.

>> No.9820135

I don't have any :(

Met through homestuck and thank god we all outgrew homestuck at the same time so we’re all still friends

>> No.9820141

On omegle in the cosplay tags.
Talked to them for about 5 hours.
Ended up rooming with them about a week later for otakon after my friend from college ditched me 2 days before the con.
Been rooming with them for 5 years now and we coordinate groups together.
Most chill, drama free people you could ask for.

At a meet up at Sloss Furnace back in 2013.

For my current cosplay friends, I moved to a different city about five years ago, and I went to a meetup by myself. The meeting place was within walking distance from my apartment, so I decided to put on my latest creation at the time and walk on downstairs.

I literally knew no one there, so it was initially pretty hard to integrate. However, one of the photographers helped me out with chatting up a bunch of new people. I now have a ton of cosplay friends, and that photographer is now my husband. I'd say it's a pretty great story with a good outcome.

That would be my dream. I know that a lot of people found cosplay friends through other people, but I haven't even been able to meet one person.

Same anon as before, but do you live in a smaller town, anon? I manage to live in a large metropolitan area downtown thanks to a scholarship I got, and larger towns tend to have more meets and whatnot.

Not cosplay, but I met my best friend through shitposting on /cgl/ about jfash

There is an Asian festival in Seattle called Dragon fest. There was a cosplay contest I entered. Afterward a guy told me about a cosplay meet up called Gasukan. It was held once a month in different locations around Seattle. Started going and that's where I met most of them. After it ended I pretty much meet them at con, mostly hotel room drinking parties.

>> No.9821071

Masquerade green rooms, honestly. When you're stuck in a room with common-interested strangers for that long you're bound to make friends with at least like one of them

>> No.9823320

A lot of my friends just happened to cosplay but I never did it myself. A few years ago one of my friends talked me into trying it and I’ve been doing it ever since. Now those people don’t cosplay because they either can’t go to cons anymore, can’t afford it, or complain that nothing they do looks good anymore. Time to find new cosplay friends I guess.

A whole lot from here (/cgl/) at meets and just posting in general
A bunch from Homestuck back in the day
A bunch from just cosplaying and getting contact info
And one from a Facebook sale

Stupid question, but would it be weird to ask someone for their cosplay instagram account if you like/ask for a picture of their cosplay?

I go to photoshoots/meet ups at cons and meet people that way. A couple years ago I met some really chill people at an Evangelion photoshoot who took me into their group. We still hang out today and coordinate cosplay groups together.

i met two seagulls through 4chan, on a different thread, one that we play the same game.
they were talking about AX 2014 since some people from our mutual friend group went. one of the gulls asked if i wanted to fly out and go to the next one. i thought it would be weird since im a guy btw, but it turned out to be really chill, and we all had a good time.

Not really. Instagram is quite acceptable to ask for in terms of social media. A lot of cosplayers have separate cosplay accounts for them too.

It goes like this on a scale of personal to not:

Totally Open: Cosplay FB page, Cosplay instagram, Tumblr, Other cosplay profile sites
Open: Twitter, E-mail
Only if you're friends: Personal FB page
Best friends: Private twitter

>would it be weird to ask someone for their cosplay instagram account if you like/ask for a picture of their cosplay
Not at all. Many people exchange social media info at cons.

I'm 25. No chance to make friends offline anymore. JKM. Also not a cosplayer but a closet ouji.

Got few cool online friends. Tho I wish I could go with anyone to a con.

>> No.9825599

I didn't, yet.

A lot of my friends are generic weebs that weeb hard enough to own keychains and watch anime but not hard enough to go to local cons (let alone cons you need to split hotel + drive to for)

It's a bit infuriating, honestly.

God, I hate those kind of weebs so much.

I commented on someone's post in a group and someone recognized the obscure character in my icon, we immediately became friends and they introduced me to all of their friends. Now we all attend cons together and have a good time

Really nigga? Cosplay is a treacherous hobby to the point you would fuck over your "friends" for your own personal gains.

>> No.9828375

>2008 or 2009, was 14/15 yo
>A middle-sized shitty con
>Knew no limits of personal space or shame in talking to other weebs so tried to make friends with everyone
>Hetalia-cringefest was at its peak of popularity so cosplayed from it
>Met a ton of other Hetalia-cosplayers but ended up hanging with four other cosplayers I’d never met before
>Had a picnic outside the con, talked about anime, shared food with each other, told stories, had a blast, shared umbrellas and hid under the jackets when it started to rain
>Really loved them but didn’t think they would stick around, it was normal for me to hang with different people in each con and never have a stable cosplay friend-group
>Exchanged contact info (DeviantART id’s and MSN messanger id’s since those were the hot things at that time)
>Ended up talking and cosplaying together for years to come through different fandoms, visited each other for new years and other holidays
>A couple other people joined our group throughout the years
>Became best friends
>It’s been ten years, still spend every con and many holidays with the group, talk every day, still my best and pretty much only friends

I love them and I would die for them.
I’m so thankful that my cringy middle-school weeb self didn’t know any boundaries and just happened to talk to the right people at the right time.

I made one of my best friends through being cringy about homestuck and we still talk every day.
