I'm just like, "That's the sacred heart. A prominent image in catholicism. You'll find it in churches and cathedrals all over the world." Xe walked away after that. Still clutching the business card. It’s mostly a uniquely American problem because at one point there was an influx of immigrants — and to tell you the truth, the previous generation of white Americans were indeed racist assholes. So many jokes of “arr chinese rook arike”, “can’t tell if your eyes are open”, “chingchong niknok”, “chinky charlie”, etc etc.

The second generation of immigrants probably grew up with being bullied over their clothes, their appearance, their food, their culture. Then they get to watch (probably) the same group of white people who bullied them turn around and suddenly praise the same food, the same clothes, the same stuff that got them bullied. That’s gotta be a pretty hard punch, these people getting praise for the exact same thing that they were bullied for. There’s probably a pretty deep hatred there for all the childhood bullying that that racist parents teach their children to do to their immigrant classmates, which is what fuels the whole cultural appropriation anger.

The whole thing about “being respectful and you can wear this dress” doesn’t really solve anything. There’s entire generations who thought it was funny to crack racists jokes and taught their children to do the same. Unfortunately the ones responsible are probably old and dgaf now, all that’s left are the bullied children who grew into adults that now think it’s okay to hate you back because your parents did it to them first.

Just posting this here so folks can have the right understanding of this shit. It’s not all about Murrica SJW signalling, this was a problem that took pretty long to grow into.

People in the US have completely lost their senses of humor. Everyone takes themselves so seriously, and if someone else does or posts something that remotely touches anything that has to do with their personal "identity," (whatever that even means), instead of laughing it off or just ignoring it, like people used to, there comes a tidal wave of hate and BS and cries of people being every kind of "-ist." This is what social media has done to America--what used to be the strongest country in the world is now full of pantywaists and whiners who can't accomplish anything and blame everyone but themselves for their shortcomings.

I have news for you, America:
Every other country in the world is more racist than you, and they're laughing at you for your constant butt-hurtedness over everything. It's the main reason why no one else in the world takes the US seriously anymore.

You're also allowed to completely ignore overly sensitive people who don't ask you do something, because you are not required to bow down to others.

Nice touch using the qualifier of "nice" too. As if implying anything except obeying you would make someone "not nice".

A picture of otters wearing the headdress isn't offensive. If they had taken a real one and shit on it, that would be offensive. If they had warn one and pretended to be native american for free shit or w/e scam, that's offensive. Drawing fictional creatures simply wearing them is not offfensive and you're full on retarded if you think it is.

Honestly, you sound like a whiny bitch and you should kys if this is too much for you.

Real live tribal citizen here:

Is it offensive? Yes. It is not only a religious item of a people who's religion was systematically wiped through genocidal boarding schools and the adoption era, it is also a symbol synonymous with American Indians as a whole. Native Americans were literally beaten in American boarding schools as late as the 70's for speaking their native languages and holding on to their cultural symbols. So yes, seeing a bunch of non-native people freely wearing a symbol my parents were literally punished for and then claiming some ownership to that is very offensive.

People from areas without first nation people likely won't understand. We are sovereign nations within the United States, we have rules and trade laws regarding native american art, symbols and heritage. (see Navajo nation sues Urban outfitters) Cultural appropriation is not an international phenomenon, but one deeply, painfully burned into native american histories in particular.

Tbh though, no you shouldn't wear it, it's an ugly ass dress.

Christians were harassed for centuries in Rome. They were burned to death, stripped out of their skin and given lions to prey on them. But no one cares at this point. I don't see people sperging at any brand for using crosses. And even before that, cross is a torture tool. Isn't it offensive to all the people that died in agony on crosses?
No, it's not.
I don't see what is the reason for this whole "cultural appropriation". Cultures mix, become different and it's a natural thing. That's why we speak English, but words can be French.
I don't live in the States, but I think people forget that segregation was apparent in Europe too.

Poland was occupied for more than a century. Polish language was forbidden in some parts. As well as the culture. If someone makes a dress with Polish designs, I would be happy if anything.

It does, but the dynamics are really different because, surprise, different countries and different cultures have different histories and contexts behind their interactions in a way that can make the impact of actions different.

I kinda wish online communities would stop using academic terms to describe things that make them uncomfortable because as soon as you drop a term like "cultural appropriation," people get super up in arms about it and conversations turn really toxic really quickly. If someone had started the conversation with "seeing an artifact from my culture being used like this makes me uncomfortable," it becomes more about the person and consideration towards individuals and less of a dick measuring contest about who can use the biggest and most academic terms to describe oppression, but without actually saying anything meaningful.

I get what you’re saying but it’s literally not letting white people engage in cultural mixing while for example, it’s not frowned upon nearly as much when the Japanese or Chinese integrate elements of white western culture. Because they were “historically oppressed” and whites weren’t. Yet it’s still possible if not to have textbook racism, to have PREJUDICE against a given race. It’s possible to be prejudiced against white people. That doesn’t make them better than anyone else, it’s simply possible

>> No.9879282

>If someone had started the conversation with "seeing an artifact from my culture being used like this makes me uncomfortable,"
That wouldn't be useful to the sorts of people who complain about cultural approriation, because either middle-class and westernised with little relation to the culture beyond putting a word in front of 'American' or white uncle toms looking for approval.
Saying "it makes me feel uncomfortable when you take elements from a culture that I've never been part of and only vaguely care about and use them in your own fashion" just doesn't have the same punch to it.

>>9879273

No, I haven't. Maybe that's because I'm not in a place where the customer is always right, but also maybe because I'm actually good at interacting with people. If you are getting paid to interact with members of the public, you should be cordial at the very least. Saying "sorry, I'm busy at the moment, if you come to my booth in 5/10 mins I'll be free then," or "sure, it has to be a quick one though because {insert reason}" is far nicer than "ugh make it quick".
There is literally no way to say "make it quick" in a nice way. Who cares that she was on her period? Surely she's been dealing with her period for a long enough time that she should know how to keep her mood swings under control when she's at work, like every other woman on the planet.

Are those river otters? I mean, isn't there a uniquely North American river otter species? I know they are occasionally spotted in Northern California where I used to live. One of the natives I knew described how he saw a group of them in the eel river, they swam close to him to check him out, and he found it ver spiritual and connecting to the earth and animals around him. He couldn't stop talking about it for days.

I guess I kind of saw this print as a cute twist in that: a native North American species wearing a traditional item of natives that also live here. I thought it was a cute little twist. Aren't otters "native" Americans too?

Ok, first of all, no one "pointed you to this thread". From one "efamous" Lolita to another, let's just admit that we read cgl sometimes.

Second of all, you've been in the Lolita comm long enough to know you should just ignore this shit. Do you know how many times people have tried to start rumors about me? I don't even socialize with ANY Lolita's on a regular basis. And people making up shit about how I was a manipulative bitch, and literally inventing scenarios that never happened. I laughed, I ignored it, and it went away.

Thrirdly, at this point you know you're well-known in the community. You've worked semi hard to get it that way, let's be real. I remember when you weren't, and you did have an attitude on gtfoegl and such. Let me telll you, that shit doesn't fly. Don't tell people they need to hurry, or be short with them. be gracious to them. Many people see you as an inspiration and you have to keep that in mind and remain kind. Once you're well known, people analyze everything that you do and they don't forget anything at all, no matter how fucking stupid it was. Think about your tone and how you come across, and never explain yourself. Especially not on cgl. You have got to know better by now.

Fourth, I think you have a cute style and it does make me happy to see a pastel revival of pinks and blues and purples and shit. Keep it up.

The person who took your photo probably gets offended too easily by many things in life and they clearly lacked the awareness to see it wasn't a good time to ask for a photo. It's kind of hilarious other lolitas are trying to hate on you for this (and taking some rando's opinion as hard fact), considering loads of lolitas get bothered all the time when they are in the middle of doing something. You don't owe it to anyone to be polite if THEY are being inconsiderate or, hell, if you are stressed/busy.

Yes... they're river otters, likely North American river otters, dressed up as native North Americans. In the majority of Native American culture, they're associated with good luck. (Minus some places out in the northwest where they're associated with drowning.) Either way, they're a native species which does carry tribal lore; the otter is a popular character in Native American children's story.

On the note of offense, there's good reason why the tribes-people spoke out against Victoria's Secret and Coachella specifically. It was because the combination of the chieftain's headdress and overt female sexuality was spiritually insulting. The two were never suppose to go together for what you argue is religious reasoning. Cute otters with headdresses, chieftain kitty cat sculptures, and even a costume set for some kid wanting to play dress-up is one thing, and sexy, scantily-clad women touting gigantic, feathered headdresses is another. The latter was in insulting to them. It's common for spirituality and religion to make distinctions between male and female, and often that separation is considered sacred. Unrelated to Native Americans, kind of like how Loki was a laughable character due to him being both male and a magician. (There was a seperation between the male and female since 'magic' occasionally required a stick going inside you.)

anon and her sister are point-blank icky for bringing this she said, she said to /cgl/
it was in C's best interest to say no and go about her tasks, but to agree to the photo, and even pose nicely, shows that she's likely been molded enough by the backstabby drama in this subculture to worry about her "luvliness" at all times. poor girl can't win, but who cares?

9898542

I know I’m posting this in a lot of threads, but I am disgusted with a girl in my comm right now.
She just posted tips on shoplifting makeup and I’m disgusted as someone who has worked retail in the past.
She’s an upper class vegan girl, and obviously has the money, considering how much old school brand shit she buys.
She used to be cringey in the comm, but I thought she was getting better. Guess I was way wrong.
I’m not sure what to do about it so I’m just posting here. The replies are from other girls in the comm too, I’m disgusted.

nayrt and am ethnically Jewish but holy fuck, this is what breeds neo-nazis, Israel shouldn't exist and Israelis ARE comitting genocide in the name of Jewishness

I really wish it wasn't almost exclusively an alt-right thing to be anti-Israel and call a genocide a genocide

Walmart has the same cameras. They just give less of a fuck and don't spend the extra money on the screens that show the feed to customers (some Walmarts do have the screens at each self checkout, though). She's not only a criminal, but she's a stupid criminal.

Nayrt but she also use to be bff with the other D who told people they should buy bodyline and then call their cc to have the transaction canceled and reimbursed for fraud after it was allready shipped out. I'm always afraid to tell people I am vegan because I dont want to be associated with these types.

Funny, The comments are gone and my mutual friends are going down. Someone is paranoid.
Don’t post about breaking the law if you can’t handle the repercussions.
We don’t need shoplifters in the community. We have enough problems as it is.

contributing with more OT mess for the pot. sorry in advance but...
>Israel shouldn't exist
are you saying it should be all Palestine then? you act like Israel is only for Jewish people. it's a country, all kinds of people live there. no one's banned from living peacefully and legally in the land. people's lives and emotions are being toyed with and spent while an evil illusion is at work. the Roman empire dang near demolished the whole area, oppressing and scattering the native populations, of which a great percentage was ethnic Jewish.
there are greater anti-Jewish powers playing with everyone but it's the regular folks who are suffering, pit against each other like pawns.
N. Korea-style propaganda is fed to children, developing an unfounded victim complex and deep seated aggression in them. this has been a political and religious ploy for ages...
you'd think everyone would have found peace and decided to live together in that land by now. but many people have been forcefed diametric opposition by their leaders so they literally believe only one group can survive, while the other obliterated.
it's diabolical and we should be straight up pissed about it.
nomads and everyday folks don't systematically bomb others. what's really going on here?

>>9898506
>muh the whole group is guilty and they're all the same
The Japanese government kidnapped young Chinese and Korean women and girls en masse and forced them into sex slavery for the same military force that stole them from their families, which they likely also murdered. hope you got some crit for all Japanese people too.
