He knows what he's talking about, but you can take it a step further. I cut finely a cup of onions and 3/4ths of a cup of celery and add it to the brew with a little minced garlic. You'll find that the other ingredients mostly 'melt away' over the cooking period.

You just have to let her know you're the one cooking. If she wanted to handle it, she should have volunteered. That being said, cooking a turkey requires a little more skill than most home cooks have.
