That pizza is disgusting, and not only that, it serves as a perfect metaphor of the american hubris
on the one hand, you have traditional, italian pizza. The roman variant, thin and crispy with semolina. The neapolitan variant, fluffy and tall. Simple ingredients, years and years of experience to master. And America happened,
And Americans just have to ruin it, much like they ruined and subverted the entirety of Europe.
simple ingredients become a festering mix of plastic cheese blends, entire barrels of oil and "pepperoni", which arent even italian, yet represent an attempt at "authenticity" which is coated in as many layers of irony as there are layers of oil in the pizza. The obsession with the stringy cheese when you pull it out, all huge tells that all americans care about are flashy spectacle with no substance, colourful exterior with a shallow, dead interior, much like cities such as new york and chicago
