They taste different. The best way to show people this is to get three cans of coca cola. One manufactured in the US, one manufactured in Europe, and one manufactured in another country such as Australia. They all taste completely different, and the only different ingredient is the kind of sugar they use.
The beet sugar can usually has the least sickly sugariness, and you can taste the bitter carbonatedness. The cane one is a midway. The corn syrup based coke however, most people who were not used to the taste found sickly both in taste and smell, and found it hard to drink more than a sip.

University friends and I performed a blind taste test with over 20000 participants, and those are the results we got.
So, yes, I'd say there was a difference.
And for the record, I am not from Europe.
