The trick is to make a suction cup with the bottom of the tomato.

The initial cut is a ring shaped slice set aside leaving the flowerbutton in tact to create a suction cup out of the bottom of the tomato so that it would adhere to the board.

Yeah, the knife is probably sharp but ...tricks.
