That would be a very small subset of vegetarians making a very specific argument. Fungi aren't plants, but they aren't animals either. If the broad definition of being a vegetarian is not eating animals, then there is no problem.

He's trying very hard though, just to tear some people down a peg, because some of their logic isn't completely rock solid, even though most of their intentions are good, all they're trying to do is minimize the harm they're causing.
