No, potatoes grow on trees like walnuts do, but the limbs hang down into the ground like a peanut tree does so they develop underground. It is the soil that leaches out the gluten naturally. Hydroponic potatoes are the ones that are grown in pools instead of in soil so they don't have gluten leached out yet. If you want your hydroponic potatoes to be gluten free, you need to put them in some soil and store them in a brown paper bag in your fridge for 1 month. Then toss out the soil any place you don't want contaminated with gluten.
