The problem isn't inherently edgelords being edgy; it's the fact that they have to make every fucking discussion about their pet topic knowing very well that they'll start a derailment full of people either jerking each other off about said pet topic or people arguing about pet topic. It's completely unnecessary to start talking about IQ by country or how horrible women are or whatever on a COOKING BOARD. This isn't even a broader 4chan issue because the vast majority of the boards here don't suffer from this problem to nearly this degree, and /pol/lutants don't have a right to derail irrelevant discussions to begin with, as every board but /b/ is and has always been moderated to keep things on-topic.
