unlike stainless metals, it will rust if you allow it to stay wet or have contat with acids
on the plus side, you can get it stupidly sharp with a whetstone in a few minutes
I also suggest gwutting a combination stone (1/6k is good), and a few cheap (second hand wursties and globals) to practice skills and sharpening
you won't be getting anything out of a good jap knife till you can sharpen and use it properly

$20/hr is upper tier wages for high school kids (assuming you get a job doing something requiring IT or specific computer knowledge). As 1st and 2nd year comp sci interns, my friends were getting upwards of $30/hr.

$40-50 /hr is a "decent" wage for what is essentially a shitty high risk industrial job.
