This shit is such a scam. Both in terms of emissions, cost of what it takes to make/buy, transport and how many times you have to use them to offset the aforementioned is much greater than that of the regular old plastic bags. This goes for the reusable thicker plastic ones too since many of them would take longer to degrade than the old bags. Often times people get rid of or stop using the reusable bags before that point is reached since you would have to use them hundreds of times. When the reality is that the corporations that manufacture the shit that's wrapped in plastics, make plastic containers, and large corporations in general pollute in orders of magnitudes greater than the population in general much less an individual does on their own.

Just like the carbon footprint, and some recycling campaigns (most of the plastic and shit out there can't really be recycled and if it is it makes an inferior plastic) along with carbon offsets is nothing by a ploy by these big corporations to shift the blame and responsibilities of the environmental damage they cause to you, the consumer or a way to buy themselves out of taking proper responsibility for their irresponsible practices that end up polluting the environment. Nothing will change unless they are held responsible.

If you wanna use one of these reusable bags, by all means, do it, but also take good care of it so you can use it as much as possible.

Regardless of what you have be it reusable bags or the old plastic ones the best thing you can do is use them until you can't use them any longer/they rip. That does help in the way that it helps decrease demand even if only slightly. Only real way out of this is if these companies are held accountable stop using so much goddamn plastic or find other more degradable materials or if bacteria/organisms that eats this shit are created or a combination of all because even polymers made of shit like starch are a meme too they are just as hard to break down.
