Aside from general candy?
Someone once said it was strange that I dipped my chicken nuggets in ketchup, barbecue, or mashed potatoes.
I didn't know what ranch, ramen, or tinned meat was, or tasted like until I was in my later years of highschool. I ate like a pretty normal, picky kid surprisingly enough.

You could call it weird though that I would eat bags and bags of chips, 3 liters of coke, large pizzas and 20-piece wings in one all-nighter game session grinding CoD all the while giving no shits about my family or school work. I lost the mild weight when I started getting high with my first girlfriend.

Chains offer value in other ways, it's not that people don't care, it's just not why you go to one

Chains have:
>Giant menus that guarantee everyone at least has SOMETHING they'd eat. Chilis can feed you, for any possible 'you'.
>High availability. In any medium to large city, it's like 95% certain you're within 5 miles of a Dennys, and 99% certain you're within 2 of a McDonalds
>Consistent quality means informed consumers. Yeah it's usually some variation on mediocre, but you know that long before you walk in, and you also know its unlikely to make you sick or disappoint you since your expectations are perfectly calibrated.
>Long hours: chains are open basically 24/7 and are well-lit, heated, and secure places that are safe to dine at
>Cheap: Many low-end or fast food chains are cheap as fuck.
>Fast: IHOP can make you a plate of 3-5 breakfast foods that would take 20-40 minutes at home in about 15 minutes, because they have them constantly cooking
>Specialized comfort food is easier than cooking: If you want something like hashed browns or a burger and fries, that's a decent amount of time and prep required (Dethaw patties, prep your grill/meat, slice and fry/bake potatoes) when you can have some guy in a hat make it for you instantly.

This is why people will tolerate mediocre chains. You'll notice that mediocre restaurants that are willing to do some or all of the above actually do pretty okay for themselves.

That's because customers actually value that other shit.
