Poor black man here, vegetarian, don't drink anything with caffeine in it and I cook my own meals while living in a shitty part of town surrounded by white trash, mexicans and of course other black people (Who you can get along with easier then the other two but that's probably because I'm black too). I used to eat nothing but fast food but decided to try the vegetarian thing out, I stopped buying meat all together and starting only buying fruits, vegetables, bread, eggs and butter, but eventually that got old, so I started looking up vegetarian recipes and eating out on other peoples bills more often and my grocery bill is cut down by 1/3rd. I've gone from spending 40 dollars a week on myself a week to spending less then 20. Of course I use deals and have to borrow money from my family at times but hey could be worse, I could be out of shape.
