I've been drinking a lot of gin lately.
Mostly G&T, gin and soda water and Martinis.

It's so refreshing and you get wasted without feeling all bloated, I think the hangovers aren't so bad with gin either.

Just bought pic related this morning, will be home in about 10 hours so I'll crack the bottle open then.

Found this Spanish brand about a week ago.
I barely tasted it, I quite like it.
It's not aggresive, very little afterburn, light but present aromas and crisp taste.
I tried it with some tonic, and it killed the flavour. Same when I simply stirred it a bit.

So I'll probably drink it at room temp with a bit of sparkling water, the next time I'll have sushi for dinner.

they are right though
gin doesn’t taste good, it tastes like alcohol which inherently tastes bad to warn your body it is a poison.
alcoholics have lost that warning response from abuse and gin tastes good to them now.

>> No.10015320

is bombay sapphire a meme? i was gonna try that as my first gin because it seems popular and i've heard it's good. i've been warned against gin by a few friends who don't like it so i have literally never tried it.

that's actually true of beer likers but liquor is often mixed with things that make it not taste of alcohol and then the other flavors of the liquor shine through

Its extremely popular. Buy a small bottle and try it yourself.

i was gonna just get a handle at costco which is why i feel like asking first instead of just sampling it. i like to have quality basic liquors on hand for cocktails, even if a lot of my drinking is beer/cider/flavored liquors

Yeah I was talking more about the emerging luxury gin market.

If you are spending money on a high quality gin, masking the botanicals with tonic is kinda defeating the point. It's something I see a lot at wine tastings at gin stalls. Rich middle aged women buying expensive gins to have with about 3 parts tonic

Ehhh let them, the more popular gin gets the better.

IMHO a decent gin with a high end tonic is the way to go. Bombay sapphire is the gatekeeper, don't go lower but don't throw 50 euro a bottle gin in your tonic.

Personal favourite: sloanes

Fucking plebs. I'm from Portugal (one of the best wine places on Earth) and that shit sounds like an insult. Even worse than mixing old whisky with anything but a splash of water. Plebs gonna pleb, I guess.

yes, beer doesn't taste like alcohol, but most beers have strong bitter flavors that people are naturally inclined to associate with poison. it's definitely possible to learn to like it, but i don't think anyone really starts out enjoying the taste of beer.
