Do you guys use tomato sauce straight from the jar when you make pizza? I figure it comes with a good amount of spices already. Is this stuff meant to be used as is?

No, I don't live with mommy and daddy. I grew up, moved out and learned to cook. Fucking useless millennials.

When I get jarred sauce I get it plain and then fuck with it until I like it.

Soooo.... Do you heat it on the stove first with spices? If it's being baked in the oven anyway, isn't that redundant?

Unless you have a lot of extra time, and a particularly good recipe and technique then there is no reason to not just used premade sauce for anything.

I'm not saying to just use it out of can like it is, personally for spaghetti I like to add a bit of pesto, cream, herbs/spices to my liking.

i prefer uncooked sauce when i make pizza. just use canned tomatoes with some olive oil and maybe some spices.

And then you take the last stage in growing up, which is to quit telling people what a supreme grown up you are. Fag.

No need to heat it, I usually add spices and a shot of beer so it isn't too pasty.

Can also start with tomato paste and do the same thing.

No, you start with tomato paste and tomato sauce, mong. Use google if you know how or aren't too bothered.

Forgot olive oil and a dash of hot sauce too

I use jarred sauce by pouring it straight out of the jar into the trash followed by the jar.

Make your own. It is not difficult, or that time consuming (assuming that as we are on a cooking forum everyone likes to cook). Unless you bathe in sauce you really can get away with making it once a month.

Spaghetti sauce no, mainly because there’s way too much water in it to be really good on a pizza.
If you must go canned, tomato paste is the way to go, which you then doctor up as needed with spices.
If you have the time and want the best results, dump a can of crushed tomatoes into a large sieve and work it around with a wooden spoon to get as much excess water out as you possibly can, then put it into a large bowl, spice to taste and use that as your pizza sauce. It takes longer, but you will get paid back in a wonderful sauce.

Composes great wisdom, yet breaks common sense. A perfect description of /ck/.

I avoid using commercial tomato sauce like Prego because I dont like the taste. Although if you who, who am I to tell you what to do?

A more refined chef will start with tomato paste, diced tomato, or tomato whole. Cookdown and simmer with vegetables. Add the herbs in the last few minutes, otherwise the fresh taste reduces when overcooked.

Making a pasta sauce from scratch literally takes hours of reduction. I don't know what the fuck you're cooking that isn't "time consuming" but I sure as shit wouldn't eat it.

I usually just use tomato paste.

Agreed. I cook mine for at least an hour but usually longer like chili. Tomato sauces require it.
