I found this in my grandparents' attic and so far, can't find any information about it whatsoever. Any good websites/forums to find out more?

It's called G.de Fresnoy, 1928 grand cru from epernay.

A 1928 Krug has broken the world record for the most expensive bottle of Champagne sold at auction.

The 75cl bottle, from the Krug Collection range (the library collection of the renowned Reims Champagne house), was sold at Acker Merrall & Condit’s first Hong Kong auction of 2009 last weekend.

Yeah, labels are torn and there is so much dirt on it.

Would anyone recommend cleaning off the dirt on it to learn more information about it, or leave it be? I heard that coin collectors devalue coins that are cleaned off.

Looking up info for wine from that region during that year you're looking at a $20-$30 bottle right there. Sadly just because it is very old does not mean it's very expensive.

Frenchfag here, It is not wine but champagne.
It comes from a region in North-East (under Reims)
Also made some research.
The good news is that it is a "Millésime" so the price automatically rises to over 200€.
Also I think it's a bottle from a dead house, they don't make bottles anymore (could be good news or could be bad news).
The bad news is that it is imported so it could influence the authenticity and price.

You dumb fucks. Krug, Pommery and others are world renowned names, Fresnoy might be something made up by the importer. I would be surprised if you get $100 for it. But go ahead, call a professional dealer and ask if he's interested or knows someone who might be.

Frenchfag again.
I tried to find some champagne from 1928 and the only result is a movie from Alfred Hitchcock. But the few "Cartes" of wine and champagne stops at 1930 ! That means there's almost no bottles before 1930s !
Some champagnes from 1930s are worth more than 2000€ !
Holy shit OP you're holding solid gold !

Keep in mind that prohibition was not repealed until 1933... so if this is legit, they'd be importing wine that was already 5ish years old.

also, why would the label be in english?

What was happening in France in 1927-28?

regardless, i suspect a bit of fraud, as in the authenticity/historicity of this specific bottle and who made it seems questionable, but it still might be interesting just based on it's age alone.

The importer would get the maker to use English labels or applie them in the US on blank bottles.

Wine, except B N, is usually cellared before it’s sold, so the date is not an oddity.
