damn, smoked mackerel.

In high school, I and my pal didn't sign up for Religion lessons. The rest of the class did. The school just kinda shrugged the two of us off. So we'd go to a nearby shop, buy cheap wine, drink it in a nearby forest (overgrown park) and then get something to cover up the alcohol breath on the next lesson... Normally you'd pick a mint chewing gum, or Mentos or such. Nope, not us. Smoked mackerel. Awesome memories.

The canned ones - yeah. The oil/spices make them so soft you can simply smear them on bread like butter, the bones are so soft they are just harmless, you just don't feel the scales.

If you get them smoked, they are somewhat bigger, and peeling all the bones is a fucking chore.

Luckily I can afford better food nowadays.

Bought a can some 3 years ago, out of nostalgia. Got my reminder why I don't buy them.

My only concern with deenz is the sodium content, most of the brands Ive found here have close to 1 gram worth of it, Ive tried putting them in water and then draining it to see if that´d help.
I suffer from blood pressure and thus try to mind the salt volume-desu,but otherwise I think deenz are perfect for snacking on or even for breakfast.

Other than the bones that are just dissolved enough not to be dangerous, but not enough not to be a bother?

Other than the fact it's literally a can of spiced oil with waste fish (stuff that is normally discarded by fishers, except someone found a way to sell this) added as a cheapo filler a'la sawdust?

That it's literally impossible to eat them without getting drops of oil somewhere - on the table, clothes, etc?

I used to eat sardines rather frequently. I don't recall that period fondly, my mother working until 2AM to be able to afford doctors for severely sick father, and the cheap food for us. Times were bleak back then, and sardines were a staple. I'm glad it's in the past.

The bones provide a crazy amount of calcium according to the package?

How the fuck are you getting oil everywhere? Do you just pause for a minute between the tin and your mouth? Drain the tin before consuming and wipe the bottom, then consume your sardines. I rarely had problems with drops getting anywhere.

That's filets de sardines. Most of the time they are just guttless/headless, and honestly if you feel the bones you are heavily sensitive. There are many variation, with tomato sauce, lemon, garlic, or whatever, but the best imo is the simple olive oil.

As long as the can is intact, at least for the sardines à l'huile.
