Anyone here work in food distribution? I work at a relatively large food distribution company owned by a larger conglomerate. We mostly buy off big suppliers in my country (Australia). We have depots in major cities and regional areas. We sell wholesale to businesses mostly as well as general walk in public.

I am a versatile employee and can do 90% of tasks, I mostly work in the office liaising with customers and suppliers, while managing warehouse staffs fulfilling orders.

Any questions or general chats? customer quieries? stories? anything goes.

FYI - our most popular product is bread. because everyone needs bread apparently.

I used to work at a small warehouse in LA that shipped organic fruit mostly to san francisco whole foods locations
It was all #2 produce (aka bruised/ugly)
they would buy large shipments of improperly refrigerated bargain fruit and it was 30-40% rotten fruit, sometimes WEEKS OLD and we spent all day repacking boxes with only the good and passable fruit and chucking the rest, re-freezing them and handing them off to sell them again to whole foods
the leftover boxes were always moist and sopping wet, so they would eventually rot, and if we had any leftover delivery trucks for the day, we'd take the boxes to the recycler by the ton so they could give us $100 back for the ton and a half of rotting boxes we were discarding

the electric pallet forks were all giving off harsh battery acid and electrolyte fumes and I was in charge of refilling their batteries weekly with tap water (not even distilled)
those fumes came into contact with the fruit, also nobody ever washed their hands
