I worked line at panera during the days of the OG Italian combo. You make look like an ass but you can modify the sandwich to make it the original. I usually do this when I order pickup online.

1. Sub hoagie roll for ciabatta
2. No giardinera
3. No basil pesto mayo sub mustard horseradish
4. Lettuce, tomato, red onion
5. The meats are actually better than original [used to be salami, ham, turkey, roast beef]
6. Pepperoncini on top.

I usually ask for sauce on both sides of the bread.

KFC Thighs were my absolute favorite, they were incredibly juicy and delicious, and how I loved scraping meat off the bone and grinding those small chewy bones on the bottom of the thigh with my teeth. Breasts were good too, a bit dry, but really satisfying to bite into. Both have been gone for 5-6 years if not more, now KFC's here only offer wings, drumsticks (that taste like garbage), tenders and a variety of rolls/burgers some of which contain breast or thigh fillets, but it's just not the same.

The Baja Chalupa. Why the fuck would they discontinue this sauce entirely? Chalupas now are just the same repetitive combination like everything else on the menu. The sauce made it stand out. It took me years for me to find a suitable replacement at Taco Bell.

Bacon Potato Pies at McDonald's Japan.

It looks like one of those pies that come in cardboard sleeves, but instead of apple pie filling, it's filled with mashed potatoes & bacon. I have no idea if it's still available or if it's discontinued, but the last time I had it was when I was in Japan during the late 90s. Not only is that more than enough time for a menu to change, but I also have no real reason to go back to Japan.

The literal only fucking difference was instead of drowning it in mustard or mayo, they put a simple "stacker sauce" (thousand island) and it was bomb as fuck, especially for like 2 dollars a sandwich. They brought them back for a small while but charged 4 and change for a sandwich and then got rid of them. Why get rid of an item that only requires one sauce? It was the only thing I enjoyed on the fucking menu. Then they went and changed their fries to be shittier. Then they went and changed their chicken sandwich to be shittier. Bagels are pretty dense to begin with. I generally prefer to go light on the toppings. Just add a spread, and I'm good to go. I can't imagine loading a bagel with eggs, mayonnaise, cheese, bacon, and sausage. That's just too overwhelming for me.

The real reason shit like that goes away is that they sell them at a slight loss to move more product and sell more of other stuff that they make more money on. If they kept nacho fries permanently, they'd be more expensive and they'd sell less units of them. The first time they brought them out, they were a dollar with a side of nacho cheese. This time they were 1.39. Next time they bring them out they'll probably be the same price as chips and cheese, 1.49. If they were permanent, they'd be 1.79 or some shit and they'd sell maybe one every six, seven orders.
