What does /ck/ think of DRIED FISH? Do you eat them? What are the best recipes/preparations?

There's a lot of dried fish on amazon that's sold as "russian beer snack" or something. Tend to have love/hate reviews.
Anyone here got some experience with that?
Also, I'm looking for dried fish to use as an ingredient in /out/ cooking. Historically, dried anything was an /out/ staple, but fuck me if I know how to cook with that.

I can eat it but I prefer fresh fish so since that's available to me I almost never have it dried.

boil it to get the salt off, dump out the water and boil it again with fresh water, can do 3/4x times. flake and set aside. cut up onions, garlic, cabbage, green/red pepper, a hot pepper, and tomato, saute in olive oil add fish and some water. can add curry power and serve over rice.

Get a squid press, you can make all manner of thin jerky with it. Keep in mind that they are so fucking cheap that you may need to use a tool to finish them. The iron cast usually has some stuff that needs ground off in order for the top drum to spin and that piece to move up and down.

You don't need that to make squid jerky. I made a bunch last fall when I came into a case of fresh squid. I separated the tentacles from body, dipped in a seawater level brine and hung in my smoker. I applied a light smoke for @ 1 hour and then let it dry. Great beer snack or for hiking. Made yourself it's very cheap (that fresh squid was $2.00/lb) because dried whole squid is fucking expensive.

They are both jerky. Its like saying, "no need to make cupcakes since you can make cake instead". LOL

Yes.
Anon's whole point was that you can make jerky without needing the roller.

Your reading comprehension is awful.
