Food is culture. Let's face it.
American anons, do you think our country is undergoing a cultural decline or revival?

Neither. Things just get continually better here.

It's a big country, so America has both the best and worst foods in the world so I don't really care.

Although I admit that the common American home (the "culture") makes shit processed foods or eat at chain restaurants.

The most prestigious Culinary school on the planet is in upstate New York, so... there's always been haute cuisine in America, but the average American, like the average European; does not eat like gourmands daily, and subsists on a poormans diet.

I appreciate the intent behind this thread, but $10 says it quickly devolves into europoor v. amerilard.

Fast food/convenience food consumption has been steadily declining since the 90s. I think part of that is the renewed interest in cooking that the Food Network contributed to, as well as the increase in information available thanks to the internet. But another big part of it is economics, the post war boom that made everything cheap and wages high is well and truly over so people have to be more conscious about how they spend their money.

The U.S. is actually on the upswing, food wise, while the rest of the world is slowly but surely falling into the same trap we did back in the 60's when the processed food and drink industry started kicking into full swing.

More and more Americans are rejecting the processed food and drink garbage that's being pushed non-stop by (((industrialists))), while more and more foreigners embrace the "convenient" fast food franchises responsible for our current obesity epidemic.

Culinary, yes to some extent. The trend towards organic and less processed foods is certainly an improvement to the supermarket based stuff of the decades prior. Even if organic shit is overpriced or a scam, it's still a trend that's focusing on quality of the ingredients and knowledge of where it comes from. At the same time, it seems like fewer people know how to cook.
