Oil doesn't help at all during cooking is actually detrimental if you're going to be saucing your pasta afterward because it coats the pasta as you're draining it, which prevents the sauce from adhering properly.

Also you don't need a lot of water to cook pasta either. In fact it's detrimental as well if you're going to be saucing your pasta properly, because you want the pasta water that you use to be as starchy as possible.
