My food budget is $200 a month.

What are some ideas for keto/low carb on a budget?

>>11532714
Just go low-carb instead of keto. Makes shopping drastically easier, as good meat is super expensive and shit meat is correlated with giving you a higher risk of cancer in the long run.
Buy lots of veggies and fruit and add a bit of protein for taste and, well, protein.

If you can, check if you have a local open market (don't know how to say in English - where the farmers sell their produce directly, not a supermarket). They often give good discounts if you buy larger quantities and you can check to see what you can cook that freezes easily.

Only type 1 diabetics have to worry about ketoacidosis because insulin lowers ketone production and they dont make any. Type 2 diabetics produce so much insulin that they have considerable trouble getting into ketosis, so runaway ketosis just isnt a concern for them.

Calm your tits, Anon. Nobody's heart explodes from going on keto. At worst you have to eat a little extra salt to keep from going hyponatremic, maybe take some potassium tablets every couple of days.

Good cheap keto foodstuffs that are staples for me are eggs, home-made ghee ($12 - $15AU a month), pork mince, home-made pate (ox, lamb or cod liver), sardines or sprats, home-made lard from pork fat, and grow some greens in your yard (rocket, chickory, mizuna, mibuna etc. are hardy and bitter so insects don't eat them)

Wild caught Sardines
Wild caught Cod livers in jar/can
Depending on where you love you can get some cheap fresh wild caught fish maybe like trout
Eggs but I don't really like them, the more orange the yolk the better, get free range organic or not doesn't matter. Organic but caged will be shit yolks for example
Grass fed Beef, ground, fatty cuts, cheap cuts
Grass fed Veal liver
Free range Chicken, whole, breasts, wings (don't really like drumsticks and the darker the chicken meat the more omega 6)
Loads of grass fed raw butter like Kerrygold or Finlandia or local stuff
Raw cheeses from raw milk like Comte, camembert, brie, etc
Make your own yoghurt from raw milk and some bought yogurt- Google it

Some other meats if you can find a good source - lamb, turkey, duck

Some fruit if you want like berries, apples, seasonal. Dried fruit like figs.

Some veggies of you want, seasonal, Google what's in season.

For minor stuff: lemons, garlic, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, avocados, tea/coffee/cacao depending on if it gives you pleasure, good quality salt,
