What's /ck/'s opinion/thoughts on the ground beef they sell at Target stores?

I try to keep on a budget, and the price of beef at Target is so much cheaper than at Wal-Mart or any other store (West Texan here, so no Aldi or Kroger: we do have a Whole Foods and Sprouts, but the meat's usually more expensive there, unless they're having a sale).

I've had the beef from Target only once, and my only complaint was that it was kind of greasy, even for being "lean". But flavor-wise, it was passable.

So, why is their beef so cheap?

get ground beef at a butcher or better, grind it yourself way better

I tried ground beef from Walmart and it had an unpleasant texture. I think a lot of gristle was ground up in it.

It's cheap because nobody buys it.

Red colors signify danger. People do not feel like buying any more than they need to at target because of this. They have a bad business model because of their color.

Target isn't great, but comparing target to walmart is like comparing hot house tomatoes shipped 2000 miles to a septic system that got backed up and overflowed in your yard right through the graves of the 4 dead cats you were somehow unable to care for, probably because you shop at walmart.

Is it really cheaper? I assumed everything at target was more expensive. How much is it for a pound?

Okay dude, you don't have to be a bitch. I said from the beginning that I'm budget-oriented. Sure, I know the quality at other places is better. But Wal-Mart is more than adequate for my needs. I still eat healthy, and I like my cooking, and I don't splurge my income on buying at the Whole Foods.

Probably pretty low quality. That's my opinion. You're better off trying to find an Asian/Mexican market that sells fresh meat. Either will likely be cheaper and taste better/have a better texture than Target's ground beef.

As far as Target being cheaper: are you sure that the unit price is that much cheaper? Like, are you paying $5.00 for (4) 4oz patties vs. Whole Foods selling a pound of ground beef for $3.99?

>>12393961
Either OP is retarded or really bad at math. $5 per pound is definitely not cheaper. He probably didn't bother to look at the weight on the package and just assumed it was the same amount.

Yeah, unit price is much cheaper.

Wal-Mart's 80% lean ground beef (1 lb) sells for about $5.45. The exact same 1 lb of the 80% lean ground beef sells for $3.25 at Target when on sale, but the usual price is $3.75.

But yeah, I will look at a local Mexican market. There's one close by, I'll go check out their prices.

Don't you live in Texas? How is it that I pay $3.99/lb for 80/20 in the liberal shithole that is Portland, Oregon but Walmart (WALMART!) sells beef in the beef capital of the nation for $1.50/lb more?

Exactly.

I’m not sure you’ve stepped into a Whole Foods, but since the amazon buyout there are plenty of items that are comparable in prices with higher standards. You don’t need to splurge on anything, just explore other options in your city like local shops. Does your city have a farmers market? I’d suggest staying away from buying meat from target.

Pure bullshit. Why are you lying? Also you can get 2 pounds at walmart for about $7, and I assume even less at aldi. Stop being a retard.

At chain stores like walmart and target, yeah they generally do. Of course there will be slight variations, but that carries over to all the stores. If you're in a place where beef is less expensive at target, it will be cheaper at walmart too.

I used Target ground beef yesterday to make taco meat. The texture is terrible. It doesn't hold together and just fell apart into rice-grain-sized bits. Lots of big hard chunks of gristle or whatever the fuck.
Very unpleasant to chew.
