Do people genuinely laugh at Steven Universe or do people watch it mostly for the diverse characters?

I watched some "funniest moments" videos of it on YouTube after seeing his Ube cake and I felt like something was wrong with my perception because it didn't make me laugh at all.

As someone who was into Steven Universe until like, season 3, I liked it because it was kinda funny and emotional. I enjoyed the fact that they were willing to be a little more upfront about certain topics. I also liked the fight scenes (at first)
Problem is, nothing ever happens. And sometimes they'll tease you with this potentially cool plot development... only to have it pay off in the most anticlimactic way imaginable. It just squandered its potential, though it's still not a bad show necessarily. Seriously though, the fight scenes just kinda get worse over time somehow
