I'm poor and live in rural Idaho but I love salmon sashimi, is it safe to eat raw farmed salmon from walmart as long as I freeze it for at least a week? I'm sick of driving to idaho falls for the one good sushi place in this shitty state

1. your freezer almost certainly doesn't get cold enough, and it doesn't freeze fast enough to preserve the texture. Either way, it's completely unnecessary because fish in the US is all flash frozen.
2. farmed is fine, it is actually preferable because they won't have parasites in their feed
3. fish prepared for sushi is typically aged to improve tenderness anyways, people saying you need fresh-off-boat are uninformed.

anyways I eat imported norwegian mackerel for sushi, no issues.

Almost all fish sold in the US is flash frozen after catching or harvesting if farmed.

All your freezing will do is damage the fish. You don't have a flash freezer, and slow freezing fish in a normal freezer just fucks up the flesh by causing ice to form in the cells.
