Anyway, I'll pick some up for guacamole once or twice a year, and I'll smear one or two on rye toast with sardines and a bit of creole mustard when they're a little past ripe... that particular fruit is never something I go out of my way for. Most of the reasons I'd use it can be checked off with eggs, eggplant, or chick peas instead.

Depends on how ripened it is. If it's somewhat green, it has a sweet sort of taste to it, and it's more firm to the touch. More ripened avocado is softer, loses the sweetness and becomes something like walnut-lite in terms of taste. So, fairly different in taste. I quite like both variations actually.
