Biscuits and Gravy are an American dish. It's was spurred by low food supplies during the American revolution. Both parts of the dish are made of the same stuff. At its core you can make biscuits and Gravy with four ingredients. Flour for both, pork (for the greese and meat), a fluid (water or milk), and salt. This will make a really shitty version of it but it can work in a pinch.

The first scone recipe that comes up on google when I search for "scone recipe" contains sultanas, so does the second, so does the third; the fourth is this one: https://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/occasions/mothers-day/mothers-day-afternoon-tea/plain-scones

Scones for a cream tea are lightly sweetened, but cheese scones, which are equally popular to make at home, are conspicuously lacking in sugar. It's almost as if there's a generic recipe to which people either add sweet things or savoury things.

>Well since literally everything in the USA is borrowed from Europe I assume that there is some kind of equivalent there.
They aren't really able to make it in England if they aren't willing to make their own american style sausage. Sausages in english are pretty uniquely different, fattier, and lacking the same spice profile. American style, aka Jimmy Dean, and similar, is coarsely ground, and very heavy on the sage, parsley, thyme, paprika, onion, garlic, black pepper and varying amounts of red chili flakes.

Somewhere along the way, american sausages cut way back on the aromatic flavors of mace, nutmeg, ginger, and the like that are still popular in British sausages, and went more herbal with the sage, caraway, and borrowed herbs like rosemary and oregano from italian seasonings.

I love an old fashioned Scotch egg, and if I were to use jimmy dean to make it here in the US, it'd taste way wrong, and vice versa, where if a Brit were to make biscuits and creamy gravy with their link sausage into crumbles, you'd taste all those pie flavors, as if you...well, made it with bratwurst or something like that. I don't find sausage hard to do, if you have a food processor, just some controlled pulsing of fat and loin til you get it right, why, because you only need it coarse.

Doesn't sound like you've ever had a typical scone. Like biscuits, scones are a type of very minorly worked cream dough, sometimes only cut right on the baking pan before going into the oven. They are usually consumed right from the oven within a short amount of time, or they go hard. I've seen places with orange scones on the menu, because they are able to cover the top with icing to extend the shelf life. But, in actuality, you'd enjoy the scone split open just like a biscuit, bite by bite with butter and jam, or if lucky, clotted cream. It's all a luxury because the dough was made with cream in the first place.

Personally, I always love the South, great corn bread and barbecue, great fried chicken and pies. But there's also something to be said for seafood on the coast and steaks from the Midwest.

But if you're already trying cornbread you're already trying the best of American cuisine, imo. If you like cornbread you might like making hush puppies. You might also like a cornbread casserole. Honestly, cornbread is just GOAT.

No it's not?
Gravy at the simplest form is the drippings and juice that rendered from a roast, or a pan fried hunk of meat, which because it was in a pan driving off the moisture, you added liquid to loosen the fond. Flour is the optional part. It's for lazy people who want it very thick and clingy and didn't flour their meat before cooking it in the first place. Without flour, gravy is as simple as pan drippings, or as complex as wine or higher proof alcohol, coffee, herbs, roasted onion, celery, peppers, or garlic.

It's not just red eye gravy (the name clearly related to caffeine and mornings), but it's fantastic for a beef or pork roast. It's quite a normal thing in my family to pour the leftover morning coffee pot 1-2 cups in the bottom of a roaster at the beginning of the roasting time, to make sure the initial drippings don't just hit hot metal and scorch. The benefit is that coffee beans are "roasted" and they bring a lot of roasted flavor to the final gravy, and pretty much no coffee flavor.

For coffee flavors, and this is not my thing, but it's common in restaurants, you can take a really large roast, like a whole brisket and use pulverized coffee in your spice mill to add to the rub, with a final BBQ sauce of unusual richness.

scones don't have sugar you absolute fucktard. they simply do not have sugar unless you decide to add it. look up any normal source for an english scone recipe and they will not feature sugar. they are like an enriched soda bread you take with tea, jam and cream. they are not supposed to be sweet.

im american. mom cooked lots of classic american dinners. meatloaf. spaghetti meat balls. pork chops. also euro dishes like stroganoff, beef borginouine, chicken cacciatore. made corn fritters, pancakes, waffles. we never had biscuits with sausage gravy. i did not know it existed. i tried it as an adult. it tastes just like it looks. it horrible. this is why america is going down the toilet with Trump. sausage gravy. my mom made REAL gravy with her turkeys, from the drippings and flour to make a light roux. thats gravy. everything else is just a mix of lube, semen, turds and piss.
