Grill hotdogs on a grill. If you don't have a grill, boiling them works fine. Honestly, any way to make them hot without frying them works fine. Put them in the bun. Apply toppings. Sauerkraut alone works well, but so does a mixture of ketchup and mustard. Frenches isn't great, just use your best mustard. Onions work on chili dogs, but you don't have any chili, so don't bother with the onion.

One thing iv always wanted to try that you dont get in the UK (pic related) Giardiniera.

Boiled vs grilled dogs are almost like two different foods. Sometimes you're in the mood for one, sometimes the other.

It really depends on what kind of Americana you're trying to conjure up. Grilled dogs remind people of campfires and families grilling out in the backyard on hot summer days. Boiled remind people of street vendors, amusement parks, sports stadiums, glitz and glamour and grime..

Oh fuck I want a hot dog now.

>> No.12769473

>>12769461
>Do i need to toast the buns at all?

Optional. It makes them a little tastier but you run the risk of burning them, bread burns fast on a hot grill

>> No.12769474

>>12769461
we have gardenia as well. pickle relish is totally different.
maybe find sweet relish in the american section of stores if thats a thing.
toasty buns are always nice
sauerkraut is is hit or miss though, its not essential for a hot dog, and most americans dont like it. i dont mind it, but i buy the refrigerated kind and stay away from anything bottled or canned

Grill or fry your dogs, toast your bun, and slather with polish mustard, finely minced onion, and some sauerkraut. If you want a chili dog, use your french's and still use onion.

Ketchup on dogs is pretty much for children and those who eat like them.

I am a fan but i think on the side rather than in the dog.

Another way that Hawaiians/some Asians use is to slice in half lengthwise, put middle cut part facing down on a very hot pan, then put a grill press or other weight on top. Gives you a nice sear and texture that you can’t really get on any round part.

There's no magical American recipe for hot dogs, ding dong. Just heat it up anyway possible. Anyway, I like raw onion on mine. I've seen some people that like them fried, but completely caramelized is too sweet for a hot dog. But, try whatever you like. And try some of that Stagg chili you posted and maybe get wild and add some shitty american cheese product on top to make a chili cheese dog.

Well, OP, I am entertained. If I were you I would pan sear the absolute fuck out of two hotdogs, to the point you think you’ve ruined them (you won’t). One with sauteed onions, French’s mustard, and black pepperon one side of the (toasted) bun and a stripe of ketchup on the other. The other dog with sauerkraut on one side and a fuckton of polish beer mustard all over the toasted bun. Post pics of whatever you do.

Sauteed/fried/grilled onions are a perfectly acceptable hot dog topping. Hot dog+kraut+cooked onions+spicy or polish mustard on a toasted bun is probably what I would make with your haul.

Ok so i had

Polish beer mustard on both.
Spicy mustard on both.
A little ghost pepper sauce and fried onions on one.
Raw diced onions and saurekraut on the other.

Im surprised, i think diced onions is better.
The mustard was good but i might have over done it.
Saurekraut was a bonus.
I think raw onions, saurekraut and the polish mustard is best.
