13007451 No.13007451 [Reply] [Original]

I've pretty much only had modello and sam Adam's, random red and white wine, and random shots with friends like jack Daniel's and other basic stuff.

What are the best widely available beers/wines/anything that I should try?

Thanks, would appreciate any advice so I don't keep trying to drink piss like bud lite

I'm a palate-let. I usually just drink rum. If you want to get fancy, toss some ginger beer and a splash of lime juice into it.

For some strange reason, rum and coke is looked at as a child's drink while rum and ginger beer is totally acceptable despite them being essentially the same thing.

Nicer beer (but still affordable): Warsteiner Dunkel
Seasonal beer: Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest

Honey-mixed whiskey liqueur things are terrible when sipping neat at room temp (like you are supposed to do with a whiskey), but they are superior to standard whiskey when mixed with cola. Use this as a starting point that will lead towards sipping a standard bourbon. The Evan Williams black label (their flagship), is ridiculously cheap, but still decent.

Also, I recommend doing straight whiskey over beer, as it has no carbs or sugar. Beers are liquid bread carb bombs.

Not even what they’re for.
Case and point. You don’t know what you’re talking about and don’t drink whiskey.

If you’re shaking a whiskey cocktail, you want the ice to chip off and present more surface area to chill your drink even more and faster than stirring can do.
Putting rocks in there would just put sand in your drink.

If you’re drinking your whiskey neat, you want it at room temp. If you’re drinking it in a cocktail, the ice in the drink is desirable to meld the flavors and get the drink to the proper strength.

Either way, whiskey stones are unnecessary.

if sad truely were as big of an issue as you were making them out to be, they would have used a different material that cools all the same. >beers
The widely available part might make this more obnoxious. Do you have a grocery store with a large beer selection or no? Founders is a pretty good brewery that I would recommend, though some of their beers can be pricey. If I'm being honest, you should probably figure out what kind of beers you like and then go to brewers (though you will want to start with a good brewer, obviously). Bell's is another good brewery. If you're lucky enough to be by Wisconsin, New Glarus has good stuff. Honestly, Leinenkugel's has some alright beers (particularly Summer Shandy).
If you want something really basic but better than bud light, Harp (Guinness's lager), Guinness, Blue Moon, and Pabst are all at least alright and I'm very certain you can buy those at your local market if it has anything resembling a decent liquor department.
>liquor
Again, you might want to explore types of liquor and mixed drinks a bit. This is where I'd actually recommend going to a bar (assuming it's a decent one) so you can get some variety without buying a whole bottle of shit you don't need or those stupid mini bottles. I like bloody Mary's, but they aren't for everybody. White Russian is probably a bit of a meme, but if made right it can be nice. If you're talking on the rocks, then try out some bourbon and scotch. I'm honestly not to knowledgeable on brands for those. My dad like Glenfiddich for scotch. I don't really drink it though. For bourbon, I'd go for Maker's Mark or Jim Beam if you're not trying to get to crazy just yet.

That's what I drank when I was getting drunk with my older bro in high school. Raided the parent's liquor cabinet and they didn't even really care about that one in particular.

I will second this. I kinda forgot about cider here (>>13022367), but it is good. Don't get Red's though. It's basically juice.

No. Pic related is the back label of a George Dickel 12 bottle. Notice anything? 0 carbs per shot/serving.

Only for starters. Once you become a man you drink fernet neat at room temperature. As someone who spent a lot of time getting good at making mixed drinks the only one that's actually worth it is a whiskey sour, most liquor worth drinking is best enjoyed neat.

Yeah, the cans a little smaller than a 12oz but its 8-9% and still pretty easy to drink being heavy on the fruit but with more burn to it. Two on a fast and I am drunk.

This.

Liquor is like a steak in this regard. What do you do with a steak that's mediocre at best? You add extra toppings and sauces to compensate. What do you do with an excellent steak? Eat it as is. Plus, drinking something neat doesn't require the fuss involved with making a cocktail.

Oh, and here's a Sazerac I made last night.
