I found the best recipe for burgers was to keep it simple: lean meat, butter, garlic, salt and pepper.

For toppings, have yet to find a better combo than mozzarella, tomato, lettuce, raw onions (previously deep in water) and mayo.

Personally, I like to make a special sauce with mayo, mustard, and dill relish and just have raw onions diced with some kind of cheese

Smash-burger patties are my favourite burgers. They cook quickly and you can stack two on top of each other without much hassle. Top it off with ketchup and mustard (or burger sauce), lettuce, onions and some bacon if you want. American cheese is also the way to go for me as it melts the fastest and acts like glue if you put another burger on top of it.
