Doordash is literally raping my wallet. I spent $60 on food today alone.

Anon, you are not hungry, you are empty.
As long as you're empty, no amount of food will fill this void, you will only get fatter and more miserable. The time to leave this treadmill is now. Stop eating. Fast. Get on an actual treadmill and lose those pounds.

I showed one of those to a new student (violin) a few weeks ago to teach him how to tune his instrument. He told me there's an app for that and after trying it I have to admit that is a lot easier. You just play a string for your phone and it tells you the exact exact pitch in hz

>> No.13198434

>>13198432
No app is an excuse for proper ears and there's no way any "app" will relate the sound as properly as a real instrument in hardware, like piano wires or anything like that.

Exercise alone won't fix all of your problems, my fat friend. But it's a step in the right direction. And a big one, if you're suffering inside your lard shell. You can take this step and see if it works for you, or you can choose to bitch and moan about that nothing ever changes.

>> No.13198447

>>13198434
Maybe, but unless you're teaching a prodigy, which I shouldn't, that app is significantly better than telling him to use a tuning fork or listening to the dial tone on a landline phone.
It's very convenient and surprisingly accurate. You'll just have to accept that times are changing, man.
I do encourage him to only pull a clean A from the app and then see how close he can get with the other three strings without the app, though. We go by the Suzuki method so a lot of it is by ear.

(not him) but this is actually what I find strange. tuning my guitar by ear is very easy for me while others NEED an app or tuner for it. The problem isn't that they don't know the notes. The problem is that they can't hear pitches. And that to me is simply stupefying that people can be musicians while not being able to discern pitches. That's like being a fuckin writer who has dyslexia.

You don't have to have perfect pitch to know when something sounds bad or out of tune. Many people can train their pitch recognition but there's a genetic component to it and the older you get the harder it becomes to train your ears like that.
>That's like being a fuckin writer who has dyslexia.
No, it's more like writing in your second language. Having a good ear for pitch makes it easier to be a good musician but it doesn't make someone any more technical or creative.
