My family is from Missouri and continues to create this annual abomination called broccoli casserole, it came from the midwest side of the family, not the based and racist southern part. I'm only gonna throw in my two cents since I was born and raised in Hickville Alabama. Now that I'm older and lived in a few different places out of state I can definitely say I miss the family's thanksgiving dinner. Not to say my family is living with a lack of tech/internet; most are into making their houses smart homes. Most when it comes to cooking however depend on the old church cookbook of all the recipes by the older women, most of which aren't with us anymore god rest their souls and bless their patience for helping raise my dumbass. If they dont use the cookbook it's a family recipe taught by word of mouth, if it isn't good, you're a shit cook and aren't allowed to touch that dish again and the responsibility gets passed to a different relative. Not to say competitive but definitely gives one pressure to do well. Of course of you mess up, you're only given a bless your heart, but it's understood you will not fuck up like that again. God I miss them all.
