gather around outside with family and/or friends and a fire. Put a hotdog on a stick and roast it. Put it in a bun, add mustard, and eat. Repeat a few times until you barely have enough room for s'mores afterwards.

Or load a plate with three hot dogs in buns, cover with chili, cheese, mustard, and raw onions.

I tried out both back to back on my most recent trip to Detroit. My final analysis was that American has better Coney sauce, while Lafayette has better dogs. However, this was because Lafayette's sauce was much more liquid and runny, which I'm not a huge fan of, so if you like it that way you'd probably prefer Lafayette. Also, the internal decor was very different, with American being an over the top Americana kitsch befitting its name, while Lafayette feels like you walked right into a greasy joint straight out of the 20s. Both are charming in their own way.

why is this so true of Korean food? The intense looking shit is surprisingly mundane tasting, and the normal shit fucking slaps? fried chicken delicious,Kimbap meh pretty normie sushi roll, Bibimbap fucking bowl of rice, veggies, and meat somehow delicious just because they add a fucking sauce. Koreans are magic.
