In my country people add all kinds of things to hot dogs, but the American ones I've seen on the internet are just the bun, the sausage and some mustard. If I did that with our ingredients, it would be extremely dry, so I'm thinking there is a difference in the type of sausage and bun Americans use in theirs.

Any help?

Hot wieners are a Rhode Island thing. They're good, but nowhere near representative of American hot dogs (whatever that means), and Rhode Islanders don't even consider them hot dogs.

At an American BBQ, we will usually have a bunch of meat like chicken and grilled burgers/hot dogs. The buns for hotdogs are usually somewhat moist (given that they are of a good quality), so you don't really need much sauce or too many condiments just to make it edible. Some ketchup, mustard, maybe some relish if you like that, and you have yourself a good hot dog. No need to overcomplicate it with whatever other stuff like nacho queso or chili or whatever else there is. A hot dog is a simple snack made to be enjoyed in a simple manner.

In NYC the hot dogs are boiled with sourkraut on it. The buns are either cheapo white bread or potato. They aren't as dry as you think.

Brazil.

Over here we boil the hot dogs in tomato sauce, then spoon some sauce on the bun, add one or two hot dogs, and then everything else, which varies from region to region, but certainly corn, peas, mayo, ketchup, mustard, shoestring potato and shredded parmesan-like cheese.

Hotdogs are just bbqed wieners, toasted buns, w/ mustard and ketchup. They are usually for kids while adults have smokies or hamburgers.

I really hope that there will be bbqs this summer. Some of my fondest memories w/ my family.

peas? sounds terrible
our buns tend to be pretty unsubstantial so the ratio of meat to bread is pretty high, maybe that's why you think they may be dry

Same reason Europeans argue about which side of the bread to stick up their ass; it's a cultural thing.
