I like both. I just dont quite understand why some people react the way they do to spiced, or even just slightly sweeter rum dark rum. In a different thread, some guy was going on about how Ron Zacapa is just far too sweet and that means its awful.

I dont know if people think its some kind of macho thing to not like sweet flavours and for some reason they like to point it out to anyone who does. Or if they just want to feel elitist. But clearly there is a large market for those kind of rums. If I wanted a rum that had no sweetness at all, id probably just go drink a whisky instead.

The earlier you want to be, the worse the spirit will be.
Absinthe, Grappa and Baiju would be a diversified set of spirits so early days that they're still trash. Betting on a resurgence of fortified wine might be safer though.

Plantation Overproof and Bundaberg Master Distillers are some of my favourite rums.

Yeah, you're the kind of asshole that I'm talking about. Youre trying way too hard.

Its possible to like all the types of rum, to like whisky and coke, to like expensive single malt and not just one of them. Just because someone likes one doesnt mean they dont appreciate another.

Spiced rum isn't a distraction to the flavour of rum any more than peat or sherry cask is a distraction to the flavour of whisky. What's in the bottle is the flavour. That's what the producer wants us to taste. No one buys a bottle of spiced rum to try and taste the rum as if it wasn't spiced.

No one is impressed that you think everything is too sweet. It doesn't make you look cool or manly or refined or whatever idea you have in your head.

Correct.

>Its possible to like all the X
Yea sure. Just don't call yourself a rum head when you're drinking bottom shelf spiced rum. Just like you wouldn't use peated sherry bombs to sell someone on the joy of malt.

If being able to classify yourself as a 'rum head' means rejecting all spiced rum then I guess I dont fit your definition of a rum head. Thankfully thats just your definition that exists in your own head and that no one else is too bothered with though.

My enjoyment of product X has no bearing on my enjoyment, appreciation, understanding of product Y. If I was a world leading expert in waygu beef, just because I eat a McDonalds cheeseburger doesnt change my appreciation for waygu. It doesnt render me any less knowledgable.

Splerging out on people and trying to show how superior you are because you like one type of rum over another is childish.

I can say whatever I want, also word "sweet" means close to nothing, it's up to your personal taste and they write this shit about any whisky at all, because most people are faggots and like muh sweeeeet things to eat and drink. you see my little fren, it's normal to put fuck ton of sugars into rums, at least the producers think so, and we have sweet syrops like diplomatico, el dorado, zacapa and others, they add up to 40g and even more gramms of rtificial sugar per litre, do you read it? and, this is absolutely uncommon and actually illegal to put into scotches, you can just correct the color a lit bit with e150 (caramel), so comparing well known dry Ardbeg with some sweeet bomb rums, that's ridiculous.

The absolute best rum - actually, liquor - I've ever had was Rum Rincon from Bonaire. There's a small distillery on the island that makes various flavored spirits and vodka, rum, whiskey, etc. The rum blew everything else out of the water. It was phenomenal. I bought as much as could fit in my suitcase to bring back home.

Bonaire is a tiny island off the coast of Venezuela that's famous for being a world class scuba diving destination. If you don't dive, there isn't really a lot else to do there. Maybe wind/kite surf. Regardless, if you ever find your way out there (maybe on a cruise if people ever decide to go on those again?) make sure to hit up the Cadushy Distillery in Rincon and grab as much as you can bring home. https://cadushy.eu/product/rom-rincon-700-ml

Seriously considering going back partially for the scuba but also for the rum lol. The island is owned by the Dutch, so they will ship to Europe if you buy online. Unfortunately for us Amerifats, gotta go there to get it.

Hard to describe. They had 2 versions, regular and a "private stock". They had the same flavor but private stock was alot smoother. Honestly I preferred the regular, it had more kick to it.

I'm trying to compare it to other rums I've had and coming up blank. It has a sweet and slightly burnt barrel taste with a small hot finish - in a good way. The flavor is very dense, makes other rums I've had taste like brown colored vodka.

Hard to go wrong with a classic daiquiri. I like mine on the drier side:
3 oz white or gold rum
1 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz heavy simple syrup
Shake with ice and serve up with a lime wedge.
Use key limes and sub orgeat for the syrup for a real treat. Or go hemingway-style and use Marschino liqueur for the syrup and add a splash of grapefruit juice.

The commercial, low-end shit like Bacardi and Captain Morgan do, but higher quality rums are mostly ignored. Meanwhile shit like Hennessy, Courvoisier, Remy, and D'usse get free advertising anytime a rapper puts out a song. The only rum that has gotten a similar treatment is Bumbu.

I'm in Australia, so excise wipes out the cheap price bracket completely and inflates the price of higher ABV drinks but most stuff is otherwise within similar price brackets. I looked into Appleton 12 from that first post and while it doesn't have distribution near me I can slap it on an order of other stuff I was going to get in, it's still comparably priced. It should be well within the Plantation that I bought.

good. really good. but I want to add smth. Appleton 12 is the entry or a gatekeaper to the world of really good rums. it's like when you were boozing cheap grain whisky and then first time bought a single malt. so take you time. give it to breathe and listen to this scotsman Palphy, he won't take much of your time but the video above might be very helpfull. cheers aussie bro.
