I grew up eating something in between these two styles. Cheese, salami, cold cuts, on bread or a breakfast roll (rohlik, which is shaped more like a hot dog bun) with lots of fresh vegetables. Pepper, tomato, cucumber, radish, green onion. Plus tea or coffee, but as a kid I had chocolate milk.

Don't know how representative it is of the rest of the country (Slovakia) though. A bun and a tub of yogurt is just as common of a breakfast, or eggs.

Don't get me wrong I love all American breakfast staples, especially southern, but honestly my ideal breakfast is just two sunny side up eggs and buttered toast. There's nothing as sumbline and flawless as sunny side up eggs (yolks have to be completely runny or you fucked it up) and buttered toast with OJ. The best part is popping the unbroken warm yolks into your mouth whole after you've eaten all the whites and the subtle, satisfying yolkiness filling your mouth. All the salty, sugary, filling excess of pancakes, meats, potatoes and whatnot is surely enjoyable but the flavor experience isn't as perfect as that.

Breakfast foods in general are a meme. Why do we pigeonhole ourselves into having only one of a half dozen dishes for one of your daily meals? I could understand if you're a food as fuel kind of guy who just wants something with energy and relatively healthy, but that's rarely the case. I only had a bit of breakfast at the B&Bs I was staying at which ended up mostly being buffet styles (although this one place had like a dozen homemade jams that were amazing) but Bavarian food in general was some of the best I ever had. I've never had better beef or venison than what I had there and i'm not even sure what it was. The beef was some kind of roast that just completely fell apart and melted in my mouth, it was heaven, in some kind of salty red sauce.

What the second anon here is talking about is normally called Bánh mì đặc biệt, which is literally just "special sandwich", as in house-special.
