It seems to make it too mushy.
I made another batch for myself just now without any tomatoes and it came out nice and fluffy with the perfect moisture level just like my favorite Cuban place.

You have to remove the excess moisture from the tomatoes.
Just scoop out the goopy insides and chop the meaty bits. You can then salt them and let them sit if you want to extract more liquid from them.

Once I made an Indian curry for my ex and former in-laws. Her dad gets up, goes to the fridge, paws around until he finds a jar of salsa, and comes back and dumps it over his curry and rice. It wasn't that it was too bland and he needed more flavor. It wasn't too spicy and he needed mild salsa to cool it down. He just goes "I really like salsa" and goes to town.

It gave me 'nam flashbacks to the time I went to a Chinese buffet and watched this guy desecrate a plate of food. You know how most places have shit like dinner rolls, chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, etc. for kids or picky dumbasses? Well this guy loads up a plate with a bunch of Chinese food and then literally tops it with two scoops of mashed potatoes and drizzles the whole thing with turkey gravy. I felt like I was a spectator on candid camera or some shit, I couldn't believe it.
