I scoffed when my buddy bought this, because it on the second-to-bottom shelf, between the Captain Morgan and the Bacardi and it was cheaper.

I'll be damned if it isn't one of the tastiest rums I've had, though. Smooth and sweet, straight, and god-tier in iced coffee or with lime and ginger beer.

>> No.14235480

>>14235459
Yea it started off closer to $30 and on the second highest shelf. But no one bought it so they dropped the price, but didn't drop the quality. So it's really an upper-middle level rum at a low price. It's so hard to find now a days though, I think they stopped production.

Not OP but what's wrong with spiced rum?

>> No.14237170

>>14237150
Most spiced rum is primarily flavoring. Which is oftentimes very artifical. Don't get me wrong, spicing up rum is delicious and quite a traditional thing to do, I do it all the time, but I use actual spices. If you want to try some spiced rum, make your own, and have control over which spices you use, how much you use them, that kinda stuff. It'll taste significantly better. It's also used to hide some less than ideal rums, so you can get a much better rum and spice it all the same and it will taste significantly better.

>> No.14237197

>>14237150
Nothing.
Snobs turn their nose because they view it as lower quality rum covered up with sugar and spices.

>> No.14237199

>>14237170
I'll keep that in mind. I've been buying captain Morgan spiced rum for the longest.

>> No.14237226

>>14237197
That'd be fine if it wasn't mostly flavoring. If it was actual spices and sugar, I'd be down, but it isn't. And that's the issue.

>>14237199
If you like the taste of spiced up rum, well, spice it up yourself. Get a cheapish but good bottle of rum, throw some cloves, some cinnamon, some nutmeg, some allspice - and you'll be able to regulate the taste, and get actual taste, rather than flavoring. It might even be cheaper in the long run.

Yes, in the same way that cognac is brandy. Cachaça may not have the prestige of cognac, but it deserves recognition as a distinctive style that can only be made in a specific geographic region.
