Nordic countries. Our new season potatoes are sweeter than you could ever dream of because of the midnight sun and different soil. Also because we've developed superior cultivars around the 70's. These bad boys require nothing but a boil, some butter, onion and a sprinkle of salt to make you feel content. Often we'll just boil them with dill.

I find that most countries have their own unique spin on them and it would be hard for me to say that one is definately better than the other cause I don' t have enough data from own experiences to make a judgement call but if I were forced to then in my humble totally not at all biased opinion it would have to be the Swedes.

I prefer simple salt potatoes, because they're the least amount of work. They are my favourite and most cooked side dish. The only annoying thing about potatoes is the long cooking time to me. Also prices have increased a lot in the last years in Germany.

Got that but couldn´t let you have the final say proclaiming Finland as the leading "potato developer".

That is actually really fascinating but how so, the first I can come to think about would be hydrophonics with a lot of nutrients in the water but I´m not really sure if that would suffice as I´m not sure exactly what conditions they need.

Actually really tempted to check your link and find out, thanks for the info.

You won't find an article on it from those links, they're just for some of the institutes we have. But it is an interesting subject. You heard about how they're developing a way of growing rice in saline soil? Now that's interesting.

Now you´re just fucking with me but on the off chance that it could be right ´cause trying to develop it is in fact plausible and kind of likely yes that would be really amazing for a number of reasons.
Guess we are talking GMOs here because I just can´t see how it could be possible otherwise.

With Lapin in the name it feels like it´s mostly due to the location but that can be as good of a reason to try something as anything.

From the looks of it the "potatoshell" might be similar but yours looks like it has minced meat and is that onions instead of I think it would be called salted pork belly or something in english which are then diced and where is the most important part i.e. lingonberryjam.

With that said those sure look tasty as hell.

"Lapin Puikula has a very floury flesh and a buttery taste. [...] Due to its very high starch content, around 19%, it can be prepared faster than other potatoes."

Sweden and Norway also have "almond potatoes" or "fingerlings", but they're not the same.

Aha, if it´s the same type of "almond potato" we can by over here on the other side of the puddle then yes I have tried it although I don´t really remember what it tasted and I can´t really say I know much about potato other than I love "fresh potato" or whatever it would be called in english.

Location can be more than enough to produce a unique and great product but it´s always more interesting when it´s a "special" product as well.

Wait I just saw your last entry so it is a different almond potato to the one you can get in Norway and Sweden, I´m starting to get a bit confused can I somehow order these Finnish "almond potatoes" if it´s not the same ones you can buy in the store over here (are you sure it´s not the same but cultivated in a different place as least?).
