Weight loss thread

What do you guys like to eat while losing weight? There's been a lot of days where I eat 300g of broccoli and 300g of chicken for dinner, usually with sriracha or sometimes with ranch if I have the calories left. I like eating a lot of tuna and protein shakes with almond milk, blueberries, strawberries, and spinach.

Recommend some foods or snacks. Going to eat a Red Baron pizza tomorrow.

I usually eat these 100-160 "whipped" yogurts as a snack or breakfast and I totally recommend them if you want something that tastes like a dessert but isn't so bad for you. I usually just make roasted potatoes, asparagus (or salads) and chicken for every dinner. I drink water only but you can add mio energy into it for caffeine+flavor if you're sick of regular water.

people have a strong tendency to underestimate their calories consumed and overestimated calories burned.
I have a fat friend who talked about losing weight for years. every time I suggested he track calories for a week just to get an idea of how much he consumes he'd say no, it's fine, just need to start walking more and drinking less.

then one day we hang out and he says he'd been tracking calories for the last week and was like 500-1000 over what he estimated every day. Over the next few months he lost 30ish lbs just by calorie counting.

A tablespoon of sugar is 48 calories. A serving of skim milk is 88 calories. So a "splash" might be half that, or totally that. You're probably looking at nearly 100 calories for one cup of coffee. Also, you just said "no sugar," but then admitted to sugar in your coffee... so which is it? Do you only have one cup of coffee or tea a day? Or multiple?

That leaves you 1300 calories to be at 1400 (which if you're disabled and not leaving bed, is probably what your TDEE is anyways), and between two meals, you now have 650 calories per meal. A small caesar salad with a bit of chicken will run you nearly that. How little are you eating in these meals?

I just don't believe you're counting right, not trying to be mean. But with little exercise or movement, 1400 might not be a very big deficit.

I'm not that anon, but I don't think you understand how disheartening it is to lose 2-3 lbs a week when you're way overweight. He'd be looking at nearly half the year to go down to 200 lbs.

...Not that eating under 600 calories on a given day is a good idea either, but anon's clearly proud of his progress, and progress begets more progress. Losing 2-3 lbs when the scale might tell you the next day that you gained that 2 lbs back because you didn't poop right is very disheartening.

Well, like I said, I don't support an apple and can of tuna a day, but someone at 250 lbs likely isn't getting in a very good workout or it's going to be very difficult for them. As someone who has lost a significant amount of weight, working out was almost impossible until some of the fat had come off.

Also, personally, "enjoying life" isn't the difference of an extra few hundred calories. When you're overweight and trying to lose weight, this is one of the worst things to do to yourself. I don't love this picture because normally it's all about going vegan, but the concept rings true in weight loss. Having one slice of pizza or one burger take up 50% of the day's food is just going to leave an overweight person hungry and craving more. Unironically take up smoking. 3-5 a day will supress your appetite and also can work as a laxative, especially as you might get a bit constipated from low intake. Black coffee will also give you an energy boost and help with any constipation. Drink plenty of water, dehydration is worse than hunger.

In terms of sustainability, try making your own vegetable soups. Depending on what you put in them, they can be low calorie and very filling but also tasty and full of nutrients that you'll need long term. Stay away from root veg as they will be higher in carbs and calories. Personally, I like a blended cabbage soup with plenty of onion and a single carrot or parsnip for a bit of sweetness. The ratios are up to you.

Also avoid eating tuna so much, you'll give yourself mercury poisoning.

Even then, the best method is to figure out your TDEE baseline when you don't do exercise and just eat 500 calories less then that number and just adjust each week you lose weight so its gradual and not a massive shock to your body.

I used to calorie count and walk about 30+ miles p/week. That didn't last for too long after I got ill in the middle of the street one summer and I regained all the weight back.

Then I learned about Intermittent Fasting and it changed my life. I started doing the 16:8 and then I moved onto OMAD and multi-day fasts. After some time and experimentations I have found that the best diet is an overall low carb one. I focus on eating a lot of:
>lower carbs vegetables
>low carb fruits
>plain greek yogurt
>fermented/pickled foods
>meats and seafood
>avocado
>cheese/heavy cream/dairy
>some nut butters if I'm in the mood for it

The beauty of some these foods is that you can eat a lot of some of them and be satisfied, because your body will naturally stop you from eating when you have had enough. The problem with a lot of bread, junk, and fast foods is that there's so much sugar in them that your body can eat more of them without a second thought and still be hungry.

I find if I try to abstain from some foods that I like such as some particular fruits, junk food, desserts, and etc. for too long I just end up binging on it later (which is what I did during quarantine after abstaining one entire month) and I don't want to do that again. So I try to include something that I like to my meals, because it helps to get rid of that taboo related to the food. If I feel like I can't get enough of a food I don't fight the craving and ride it out until I have had enough.

I have a friend who lost a lot of weight calorie counting, but they constantly tell me about all the protein shakes and other shit they have to drink/snack on in order to not feel hungry. I never have an issue with feeling hungry with my current diet even if the last time I ate was 30 or even 100 hours ago.

I am not sure that's going on IF would work if you are drinking like that in order to put yourself to sleep? Because the entire purpose of IF is to avoid spiking your insulin.
